Here's Your First Look at the Cast for the 'NYPD Blue' Reboot

It seemed unlikely that the NYPD Blue reboot would even compare to the original after it was revealed that Detective Andy Sipowicz, played by Dennis Franz, will be dead when the sequel premieres.

But ABC is now giving fans hope that the remake will, in fact, do the first series justice. The network just announced both Kim Delaney and Bill Brochtrup will both return to the show, Deadline reports.

Both actors will reprise their former roles in the pilot, with Kim acting as Detective Diane Russell and Bill as Police Administration Aid John Irvin. Although the publication reports the new version will focus on Sipowicz's son, Theo, it does note that Kim is "the only lead actor from the original whose character was written into the sequel pilot" and "she is expected to play a key role."

Kim appears to be thrilled to make her return. Taking to her Instagram page, the Chicago Fire star posted a screen shot of the article with the caption: "#dianerussell is back! #soexcited #nypdblue @abcnetwork #letsgo."

Fans are just as excited about the actress's announcement. "This news has made my 2019 already," one person commented. "Yipeeee let the countdown begin!" another person wrote. "Can't wait!" someone added.

NYPD Blue first premiered in 1993, and followed the trials and tribulations of a fictional police squad in New York City. (Sound familiar, Blue Bloods fans!?) The Emmy Award-winning procedural made a 12-season run before its end in 2005. A premiere date for the reboot has yet to be announced.
