Here’s the Deal With That Editing Error in ‘Don’t Look Up’

Anyone watch Don’t Look Up yet? The film has been number one on Netflix for days, has literally a million celebs in it (think: Meryl Streep, Ariana Grande, Kid Cudi, Jennifer Lawrence, Leonardo DiCaprio, Timothée Chalamet, Rob Morgan, Cate Blanchett, Tyler Perry, and Jonah Hill), and apparently also features what looks like an editing error where the entire production crew is visible.

TikTok user Ben Köhler was the first to notice the moment in question and posted it to his account with the extremely accurate caption, “Oopsy.”

“So, hey guys, I was just watching Don’t Look Up,” Ben said. “And at 1 hour, 28 minutes, and 10 seconds, you can see the whole film crew standing here for, like, three or four frames. They’re like, ‘Oh, they probably won’t notice that.’ Yup.”

Meanwhile, director Adam McKay hit Twitter to claim the shot of the crew was intentional, saying, “Good eye! We left that blip of the crew in on purpose to commemorate the strange filming experience. #DontLookUp”

Kay! Anyway, Don’t Look Up is currently streaming on Netflix and chronicles the journey of two little-known astronomers (played by Jennifer and Leonardo) who go on a massive media tour to warn mankind of a giant comet heading toward Earth. Naturally, no one listens. Oh, and Meryl plays the president, which, yes please.

The movie has pretty mixed reviews and a 55 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes, but as New York Times film critic Manohla Dargis put it, “In the end, McKay isn’t doing much more in this movie than yelling at us, but then, we do deserve it.”
