Here’s the Deal With Donald Trump’s Niece Mary Trump and Her Receipt-Filled Tell-All
You know how every family has THAT relative who’s been holding on to everyone’s deepest, darkest secrets and just waiting to spill them at the thirstiest possible moment? Well, allow me to introduce you to Donald Trump’s niece Mary Trump, who—mere months before the 2020 presidential election—is dropping a bombshell book called Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man, which, apparently, is filled to the brim with Trump family drama.
Mary’s tell-all, which is officially out now (go grab a copy!), promises to be “harrowing and salacious.” So who is this previously unknown Trump coming to steal Donald’s spotlight? Let me bring you up to speed.
First of All, Some Basic Facts
Mary is the daughter of Donald’s brother Fred Trump Jr.—in other words, she’s President Trump’s niece. She’s largely been out of the public eye, save for some major family drama back in 2000 that we’ll get to in a sec. Some other facts? Mary has a PhD in clinical psychology, lives on Long Island, is a life coach, and, judging from her alleged Twitter account, is super into cats.
Basically, She’s Airing the Trump Family’s Dirty Laundry
According to the description on Amazon, Mary’s tell-all chronicles “a nightmare of traumas, destructive relationships, and a tragic combination of neglect and abuse. She explains how specific events and general family patterns created the damaged man who currently occupies the Oval Office, including the strange and harmful relationship between Fred Trump and his two oldest sons, Fred Jr. and Donald.”
Yikes.
Yep, Donald's Brother Sued Her
Donald is unsurprisingly not just going to sit around and wait for his niece’s bombshell book to drop, so apparently, he’s already gotten a team of lawyers involved. And instead of doing the dirty work himself, he gets his brother Robert to do it (typical). Per the Daily Beast, Donald wanted to “explore what could be done in the way of legal retribution.”
Meanwhile, former Donald Trump political adviser Sam Nunberg told the publication the following:
“Based on my experience, if you’re asking me which book the president would be more upset about, the Mary Trump one or the John Bolton one, it would be Mary Trump’s. It’s about family, it’s a personal betrayal. The president has dealt with disgruntled past employees saying things and criticizing him. But in all my research—and I’m very well read on the Trumps—I’ve never seen something like this.”
And *She* Actually Sued Donald in 2000
Mary and her brother Fred Trump III (totally casual name) sued their aunts and uncles—including Donald—back in 2000, disputing the handling of their grandfather Fred Trump Sr.’s will.
According to the Daily News, Fred and Mary claimed Fred Sr. was suffering from dementia and his will was “procured by fraud and undue influence” from Donald, Maryanne, and Robert Trump. Mary and Fred asked for 1/5 of their grandfather’s estate, and in response to the lawsuit, Trump allegedly cut off health insurance for Fred’s son, saying, “When [Trump III] sued us, we said, ‘Why should we give him medical coverage?’”
At the time, Mary made a rare public statement saying, “My aunt and uncles should be ashamed of themselves. I’m sure they are not.”
She Signed an NDA, Which Made Things a Little Tricky
Apparently, Mary signed an NDA following a 2001 settlement related to that whole estate drama—at least, according to the Daily Beast. The NDA states that she can’t speak about her relationship with her aunt and uncles, which caused Donald's brother, Robert, to file a lawsuit about their confidentiality agreement to stop the book. But Mary prevailed anyway!
Judge Hal Greenwald, who was ruling over Mary's case, was unimpressed by the details of the NDA. According to Greenwald, the details of the NDA were too vague and "likely related to financial details" that there was no way it could apply to Mary and her ability to speak out about Donald in her book.
"Remember, at the time the Agreement was agreed upon, the Trump family were New York based real estate developers and not much else," Greenwald wrote. 'They were not elected officials or TV personalities. The issues that were the subject of the Agreement were intra family issues, not of worldwide concern, or even national interest."
To sum it all up: "In the vernacular of First year law students, '[Constitutional] Law trumps Contracts,' " meaning that Mary's book got the greenlight it always deserved.

She Was Allegedly the Source Behind a Pulitzer Prize–Winning Investigation Into Donald Trump’s Taxes
Back in October 2018, the New York Times published an investigation into Donald’s taxes and wealth, and rumor has it that Mary outs herself as the source in her book. She apparently admits that she supplied the paper with not only Fred Trump Sr.’s tax returns but also a bunch of other confidential family documents.
