Summer officially begins on the 21st, which means if you haven’t already found a new swimsuit for the season, it’s time to get shopping. Some of the biggest trends for the season include brighter colors, one-piece styles and shorter hems on men’s swim trunks.

Hawaiian, floral, and botanical prints are also huge for men’s swim this season, with many styles nodding back to 1950s surf culture.

For women, Baywatch-style one-pieces in poppy hues will be in fashion for the season, while bikini styles get higher necklines and lace up details. The next few will call for pool parties, Fourth of July celebrations and beach days. Here’s what to wear to the beach this weekend featuring a few swimwear lines you should know about. (SPY tip: if you are attending a pool party or summer BBQ, don’t forget to bring your host the perfect gift. We’re currently loving these ).

For Her: By The Sea Swimwear

Get the Look: “Lanikai” One-Piece Swimsuit in Coral ($165.00) |

By The Sea Swimwear was founded by two sisters, Alycia and Christina Anstett. The co-owners are dedicated to producing fashionable swimwear backed by ethical production and manufacturing practices. As members of the organization 1% for the Planet, Alycia and Christina make sure that a portion of the proceeds earned from every sale go to an earth-friendly charity or organization. In addition, each swimsuit is made from 100% recycled polyamide fiber–a fabric composed of re-purposed recycled fish nets. All styles are made in the USA and their employees are paid fair, livable wages.

The Lanikai One-piece (pictured above) definitely points to the Baywatch trend, but gets a modern update with more upscale attention to detail. Plus, the bright poppy coral color will flatter every skin tone, from fair to olive to dark. The lace up and tie back allows for a customized fit, offering support and sexy strap detailing. The cut hits slightly above the hip, yet not exaggeratedly so like the iconic original as seen on the 90s series.

For Him: H&M

As we’ve reported, H&M has also announced increased efforts and implemented progressive business strategies to improve their commitment to sustainable fashion, ethical practices and eco-friendly production. In March, the company was named as one of the most ethical companies in a survey conducted by Ethisphere.

H&M’s super-affordable swimwear line manages to stay on trend with current fashion trends while keeping prices low and processes sustainable. With a variety of basic swim trunks for men, bikinis for women and vintage-inspired cuts and prints, H&M is one of your best bets for shopping for swimwear this season.

These floral print swim trunks by H&M have a washed fading, enhancing the retro-surfer sensibility that is the dominating trend of the summer for men’s swimwear. The elasticized waistband and drawstring cord allow for personalized fit and rise, while the mid-thigh hem looks flattering and current without being too short.

We’ve paired his look with limited-edition “Wiley” sunglasses (pictured above) from Cali-based RAEN. These handmade frames are part of RAEN’s “Fabriqué en France” capsule collection, and limited to just 200 pairs. All RAEN frames feature meticulous attention to detail, constructed with the highest quality zyl acetates and metals, and finished with Carl Zeiss Vision CR-39 lenses. The shades work for the beach but are business appropriate as well.

For Him: Native Youth

Get the Look: Native Youth ‘Hornsea’ Swim Trunks ($60.00) | ($37.95)

Native Youth is known for their heritage-inspired designs, which tie in well with this season’s trending swim styles. This style epitomizes the label’s inclination toward incorporating Japanese streetwear styles with British fashion traditions. While tropical prints are all the rage right now, this refreshing take on the revived classic features a subtle pastel hue base with an impressionistic purple and green palm print.

We’re taking our party to the next level with Tres Agaves’ line of certified organic Margarita mixes, made with all natural ingredients, no high-fructose corn syrup, and purified water. The mix relies on authentic, real ingredients: organic agave, organic lime juice and pure filtered water, providing just the right balance of sweet and sour to complement your Tequila.

For Her: By The Sea Swimwear

The “Barcelona” bikini from By The Sea Swimwear features the on-trend high neckline with knotted lacing and handmade macrame detailing in the front. The high cut, halter neckline ties at back, making it an appropriate option for active beach days, swimming, and even surfing. Plus the dual tie fastening allows for a customized fit, offering support and coverage.

This style is also reversible, so you can wear it in the dark teal color (pictured) or a light blue-green. The matching bottoms (sold separately) feature side cut-out detailing, with knotted detail mirroring the top and a medium coverage behind.
