Nicole Walker, the 29-year old Swedish stylist and co-founder of the fashion and art platform AMAZE, is all set for fall, having recently acquired some “very precious items” from Céline to commemorate Phoebe Philo’s time there and “keep forever.” She also copped some Balenciaga shoes, and a visor-like pair of Oakley sunglasses, which have already made an appearance on her Instagram account. “My role is behind the camera,” says Walker, “but it is fun having my outfits saved in some way. I’m looking forward to reviewing pics of myself in like five years and thinking, ‘WTF Nico, that’s some weird shit you were pulling off. Good job, girl!”

Walker credits her fearless approach to fashion to her late mother who used to sew masquerade costumes for her father’s toy store; it was while modeling them that the future stylist first realized she could create her own visual universe through garments. A self-described citizen of the world, Walker recently expanded her horizons, dividing her time between polar opposite European capitals. “Berlin is dirty and just pure bad taste in every possible way; Stockholm is clean, posh, and conceptual.” Walker revels in such disparities. “Combining the beautiful with the ugly, soft with hard—I live for the feeling of finding a combination or a contrast in an outfit that I feel like no one has ever found before.” It’s not surprising, then, that she should be attracted to the slightly off-kilter sensibilities of designers like Martine Rose, Mike Eckhaus and Zoe Latta, Y/Project’s Glenn Martens, GmbH’s Serhat Isik, Anders Haal, and Miuccia Prada, who designed a pair of thigh-high waders for Fall 2009 that Walker has been searching for for 10 years. Then there’s Demna Gvasalia, whose clothes Walker seems born to wear. “I love Demna’s world and I hope it just keeps growing bigger. I always felt like an outsider in Stockholm with my aesthetics,” Walker says, “but when Vetements hit the fan and blew up, I realized I had just been pre-my time.”
