By now, everyone's heard Ariana Grande's "Thank U, Next" and knows all about the relationships that inspired the catchy tune, but for one of the subjects of the song, things haven't been so easy. According to Entertainment Tonight, Pete Davidson admitted to crying on his mom's shoulder after he and Grande broke off their engagement.

During a New Year's Eve stand-up show he had in Boston, Davidson explained that he cried to his mother back in October and that she consoled him throughout the aftermath of his relationship. He added that the entire situation made him "see how ugly people can get, and how cool people can be." He didn't hold back, either, detailing all of the things that went on after the breakup. The event was the very first time Davidson performed since he posted a troubling note to Instagram, saying that he didn't "want to be on this earth anymore."

Davidson described how he and his friends all sat together to listen to "Thank U Next," knowing that he'd be named. "We all have to listen to this song and you all have to look at me," he said of the experience. "It's gonna be rough."

While some other artists don't explicitly name the people involved in their failed relationships, he called Grande a "diabolical genius" for going against the grain.

"Not this wonderful lady," he said of Grande and her lyrics. "This diabolical genius named all of us."

Davidson's mother isn't the only person that tried to help him through the ordeal. According to Us Weekly, Grande attempted to console him and went to NBC Studios, but was turned away.
