Helen Mirren Sees Dead People in Her Scary New ‘Winchester’ Movie Trailer

We always love a good fixer-upper home story, but after seeing Helen Mirren as a crazed mansion owner in the new trailer for Winchester: The House That Ghosts Built, we’re reconsidering. Especially since it’s based on a true story. Of a real haunted house. One you can actually visit IRL. Gulp.

Mirren stars as Sarah Winchester, an eccentric heiress who, after the sudden death of her entire family, becomes convinced she is cursed. After consulting a medium, she decides she has to build a home for all the souls of the people killed as a result of her fortune—profits from the Winchester Repeating Rifle Company. Hunky Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty) costars as skeptical psychiatrist Eric Price, who shows up to investigate and (jump-scare alert!) gets chills from more than just the Northern California air.

Though the trailer comes just in time for Halloween, the film won’t be released until February 2018. Until then, fans of ghost stories and intense home renovations can visit the actual mansion it’s based on, the 161-room Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, California. Road trip...and be sure to call shotgun.
