It's a truly beautiful marriage.

Two of your favorite hamburger and hot dog toppings are joining forces, thanks to Heinz’s latest creation, Pickle Ketchup.

Just as the name implies, Heinz is marrying the classic flavor of its original ketchup with the added tang of pickles … a marriage we didn’t know we needed until now.

“Obsession with pickles is at a high, with 73% of Americans reporting that they enjoy the taste of pickles,” Heinz shared in a statement, citing a recent Datassential Report.

Yelp’s Top Food Trends for 2023 report seconds that notion, stating that pickle-flavored products are top of the list, with a 55% increase in searches on the platform. Even TikTok is in on the craze, with 9 million views on the #PicklesAndKetchup topic.

And really, who better to answer that demand than Heinz, a company with deep historical ties to the pickle? Founder Henry J. Heinz sported the nickname “Pickle King” in the early 1900s, a natural and expected title when you’re the owner of the biggest pickle company in the country. Perhaps you’ve also noticed the tiny pickle on the brand’s keystone label.

“Increased desire for tasty, yet unexpected condiments has served as our innovation north star for the last several years,” Katie Peterson, the director of Heinz Innovation at the Kraft Heinz Company, said in a recent press release.

This announcement comes just in time for National Pickle Day (November 14) and “marks the first Heinz innovation to launch globally following the brand’s unification under one global creative platform earlier this year,” according to the release. Pickle Ketchup might not be available in the U.S. until the beginning of 2024, but it’s already on shelves with select retailers in the United Kingdom and will be available to additional markets in the coming months. So, if you can’t wait, just go ahead and book a flight to the U.K. and back. It’s probably worth it.
