In 2010, Heidi Montag, just after finishing filming MTV’s hit show The Hills — the series that made her a bonafide reality star — had 10 plastic surgeries done in one day. While she claimed at the time she wasn’t addicted to cosmetic procedures, she did admit that part of the reason she went under the knife so many times was a desire to be “perfect.”
However, now that Montag’s a mother — she gave birth to son Gunner with husband Spencer Pratt in October — she’s expressed her disinterest in changing her appearance once again. “Having a baby has made me really appreciate my body, not just how it looks. It’s just amazing, the human body,” she told Us Weekly. “I have no temptation to have any kind of surgery after having a baby.”
Montag, who had her F-cup breast implants removed in 2013 following an enhancement and then a revision, also noted that she wants to “breastfeed and have my breαsts for that.” However, she does note that she’d “maybe” get a breast augmentation again after she’s finished having kids. “But I might just be over that phase of my life,” Montag said.
That “phase” involved breast implants, pinned-back ears, a nose job and fat injections in her face. “My favorite body part is probably my stomach,” Montag said. “Since I’ve just had a baby in there, it’s more meaningful to me,” she said. “It’s fun to show off my mom bod, the tiger stripes.”
Many moms experience post-baby body love like Montag. According to Dr. Barbara Greenberg, a psychologist who specializes in families and relationships, it’s common post-partum for mothers “to feel better about their bodies because of this wondrous thing their body did, producing a baby.” She adds that in Montag’s case, she might “feel, ‘my body did this wonderful thing and I’m not going to cut it up, I’m gonna appreciate it more.’”
Unfortunately, Heidi is the exception, not the rule. “The majority of women become frustrated because their body rarely looks the same post-baby,” Greenberg notes. She also says it’s not uncommon for women who are already comfortable with plastic surgery to then start thinking about getting tummy tucks and breast lifts. “Maybe for Heidi Montag this will be a game changer, but I really don’t think this would be a game changer for the majority of women who are addicted to plastic surgery,” Greenberg reasons.
She thinks Montag is probably not “over that phase” of her life. Instead, she’s feeling this post-pregnancy bliss that likely won’t last: “It’s possible that this will change things for her, but it’s unlikely.”
Montag made the point herself in the interview. She explained that while she gained 15 pounds more than expected when pregnant with her son, she’s been so busy caring for him that she “wasn’t really concerned with getting in shape right away.” She told Us Weekly that she “wanted to give it time.” She has since inadvertently lost the baby weight by eating healthy so her breastfeeding son gets all the nutrients he needs, getting back down to 107 pounds.
This makes perfect sense. “Generally, after one has a baby, you’re preoccupied with taking care of the baby and maybe you’re not thinking that much about your body.” This, too, shall pass. “As time goes by, my guess is that she will begin to notice what her body looks like and how her body’s changed.”
When that happens, Montag’s hopefully happy with what she sees.
