Heidi Klum Remade the '80s Smash "Sunglasses at Night" and It's Kind of a Bop

Finally, someone addressed why celebs wear their sunglasses after dark.

Heidi Klum wears a lot of hats in Hollywood. She's a model, a judge, a TV producer, and, perhaps most famously, the reigning queen of Halloween. But, it's easy to forget that the multi-hyphenate has also dipped her toe into the music industry with her previous songs, “Chai Tea With Heidi” (a collaboration with Snoop Dogg) and “Wonderland," her 2006 Christmas song. Now, Heidi is diving in head first (like, literally, in an ocean wearing bikini bottoms and a giant coat — more on that later) with a remake of an '80s classic.

On Friday, the star dropped her new single "Sunglasses at Night," a remix of Corey Hart's famed 1983 track of the same name. According to Billboard, the hit spent a whopping 23 weeks on the Hot 100 at the time. The reboot, released by Warner Music Central Europe and produced by Tiësto, will also serve as the title track for Germany’s Next Topmodel and features electronic dance beats.

Klum promoted the new record on Instagram with a series of black-and-white videos set to the song that capture the model posing in an ocean in nothing but a giant coat and bikini bottoms — and her sunglasses, of course. She also released an official visualizer that features her dancing in a black jumpsuit and matching shades.

Any fan of pop culture will know that the paradox of wearing your shades after dark belongs to celebs, who often block out haters, paparazzi, and flashing cameras by just wearing their sunnies in the moonlight. And it's one that Klum can relate to. She came up with the idea to remake the tune when hanging with her pal Tiësto before one of his shows. Her inspiration?

“I was thinking about the moment in the middle of the night at a party when you have been up way too late, your makeup has melted off, you are sweaty and cross-eyed, and all you crave is a pair of sunglasses,” Klum explained in a press release. “This scene reminded me of the iconic 80s hit, Corey Hart’s 'Sunglasses at Night.' I am beyond ecstatic that I was able to remix and re-record this track with my EDM hero Tiësto. What an honor!“
