Hedi Slimane’s Legacy at Saint Laurent

After months of fashion-world speculation, Saint Laurent and parent company Kering confirmed rumors today that Hedi Slimane is leaving the legendary French fashion house. Slimane headed the house since 2011, presiding over its complete rebranding. While critics initially had their doubts, Kering today called Slimane’s tenure at Saint Laurent an “undisputed success.” Since Slimane took over, Saint Laurent became known for its beautifully crafted, elevated take on rock-and-roll style — and for tremendous growth, with sales soaring from $402 million in 2011, to over $1.1 billion in 2015.

The notoriously press-shy Slimane gave his final interview as head of Saint Laurent to Yahoo Style in August. Asked if criticism of his earliest collections bothered him, he told us: "Quite the contrary, my determination was only stronger. If there is no reaction, it means nobody cares. If nobody cares, then we have a problem.”
