Heavenly Resort Opening Additional Chairlift Following Gondola Closure

Lake Tahoe's much-loved Heavenly resort experienced technical difficulties recently, resulting in the closure of a V.I.G. (Very Important Gondola).

The resort announced on the afternoon of January 4, 2024 that a recently discovered "mechanical issue" will close the resort's essential 'Heavenly Gondola' indefinitely. However, things are turning around.

The gondola helps skiers reach terrain from the village, and is vital in skiing the resort. However, help has arrived. Officials at Heavenly announce that they are working through the necessary Gondola repair.

The gondola was not unsafe for riding at any point in time, but the inconvenience was noticeable as the gondola was needed to get out of Heavenly Village.

However, officials at the resort remind us that there is good news: "Stagecoach lift will be ready to go tomorrow morning (Sat., Jan 6)!"

"This should help significantly, as we’re adding another uphill access point and top to bottom skiing and riding. With Stagecoach set to open, we should be able to add North Bowl and Olympic next week."

"Round-A-Bout is also getting closer to being ready to open – we’ll keep you posted. As for the Gondola, we’re glad to share that the required parts were overnighted to us from Europe, which will allow us to begin work on the repair as early as today."

"We’ve got our expert lift maintenance team members ready, along with team members from our manufacturing partner, to begin work the moment these critical parts arrive."

"Today, we’ll be carefully monitoring upload capacity given our current limited operational footprint due to weather conditions. We still have a required download in place, and our top priority is ensuring that all guests have a safe experience."

"You should expect that we may have to cap uploading on the Gunbarrel Express and Tram around mid-day – this is a unique situation due to the lift downloading requirement, and we must ensure we can get everyone off the mountain at a reasonable time."

"We couldn’t have predicted this issue, and we’re doing the very best we can – as quickly and safely as possible. Thank you again for your understanding and patience as we work through this."

Inconveniences are the worst, but safety is way more important. If you're hurt, you can't ski! And if you can't ride up the hill, you can't ski the resort, either!
