Heather Gay Opens Up About Using Ozempic To Lose Weight: 'People Are Nicer To You'

She addressed criticism that using the medication for weight loss is a “cop out” and that she’s no longer “relatable” because of it.
Heather Gay revealed last year that she’s been taking the weight loss drug Ozempic. But at the time, she hadn'ts seen dramatic results.
Now, the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star is diving deeper into her Ozempic use in a new docuseries IMPACT x Nightline: The Skinny Confessions: After Ozempic.
In it, the 49-year-old, who has been vocal about the importance of body positivity, addresses criticism that using the medication for weight loss is a “cop out” and that she’s no longer “relatable” because of it.
“It’s disappointing [and] sad to know that body positivity was all a big lie,” Heather said. “Because it’s better to not be overweight.”
Heather also addressed a comment made by her RHOSLC co-star Mary Cosby on Watch What Happens Live in October that Heather's Gucci corset must have been fake because "Gucci doesn't make a size 14.”
Heather said that comment felt “typical” for what she’s been used to hearing.
“It feels like something I’m very used to,” she said. “I’m old enough to know that I have wasted a lot of years blaming myself and feeling guilty and shame over my lack of ability to be thinner. And if I had just known there was a medicine that would make me thinner with little to no effort I would have taken it 30 years ago and probably had a different life.”
In case you’re not familiar with it, Ozempic is the brand name for semaglutide. Ozempic is FDA approved to help managed blood sugar in patients with type 2 diabetes, but it’s also used off-label for weight loss. Worth noting: Sister semaglutide medication, Wegovy, is FDA approved for weight loss.
Heather told People in November that she had been taking Ozempic “for a long time.”
“I haven't had massive results, but enough for people to notice, which is great,” she said. Heather also said she noticed that people treated her differently once she started to lose weight. “You lose five pounds, people are nicer to you,” she said. “I don't know why. It's just the way the world works and that makes me sad for women. But happy that I'm down five.”
Heather, who owns the med spa Beauty Lab + Laser in Salt Lake City also told People that she’s still trying to navigate today’s beauty standards as a mom of three girls.
“I don't want them to have my genetics or have to struggle with society's standards of beauty," she said. "I just wish that there was a solution for all of us. But I'm feeling like I'm coming into my own a little bit and I think the glow up might be a little bit from that, too. But I'll give credit to all the medical intervention. It's my business.”
