Heather Dubrow on the ‘Best Advice’ for Other Parents

When it comes to champs and her children, Heather Dubrow obviously knows best. As a mother of four, Heather’s wolf pack contains different genders and different sexualities. On all of this, Heather’s solid parenting has reigned supreme. Truly, this Real Housewives of Orange County star loves her people for who they are, which I love to see.

Hear ye, hear thee

In an interview with PEOPLE, Heather first notes that open conversations are key. “The best advice I can give to any parent, no matter who or what their kids are or identify as, is communication,” she says. As for her own upbringing, things went very differently.

“I was raised in a very 1950s household, and people really didn’t talk about things. Things were swept under the rug and I didn’t want that for my family,” she explains. Due to this, Heather is working overtime, because she wants all of her children to “feel heard.”

On LGBTQIA+ issues, Heather’s communication skills are also strong. She wishes the same for other households. This is why she’s using her platform to help normalize these types of conversations.

“Wouldn’t it be cool if I can use this platform to start conversations in other people’s families? I think anyone with a platform that can help other families, and show them what all of our normal families look like is awesome,” Heather says.

“And look, our kids didn’t ask to be born. We had them. And so if nothing else, your parents should be the ones that are standing up for you, defending you, loving you, and making you the absolute best you could be. That’s our job,” she ends.

Just kidding. She’s got one more rule that her household follows. “I’m in charge,” she jokes, adding “That’s pretty much how it goes.” Bow down, Terry Dubrow, because your wife will be taking it from here.
