Heather Armstrong – often labelled as the 'Queen of mommy blogging' – has died at the age of 47.

Speaking to the Associated Press, Armstrong's boyfriend Pete Ashdown confirmed he had found her on Tuesday night (9 May) at their home in Utah, and said she had died by suicide.

Armstrong became somewhat of a household name in the 2000s after the launch of her mommy-blogging site, Dooce. At the height of its popularity, the site – through which she documented the ups and downs of motherhood, her mental health challenges and her experience leaving the Mormon church – received more than eight million visitors a month. The same year, she was named in Forbes' annual list of the 30 most influential women in media.

She also went on to publish several successful books, including the 2009 memoir, It Sucked and then I Cried: How I Had a Baby, a Breakdown and a Much Needed Margarita. According to the book, Armstrong suffered chronic depression throughout her life but it was not treated until she went to college.

Although her official cause of death has not yet been confirmed, a post announcing Armstrong's passing on the Dooce Instagram page read: "'It takes an ocean not to break.' Hold your loved ones close and love everyone else."

Our thoughts are with Armstrong's loved ones at this difficult time.
