Heat and Eat Chicken Fried Rice Recalled From Walmart Stores Nationwide for Possible Listeria Contamination

Garland Ventures, the brand that supplies products to Walmart, has issued a recall for its ready-to-eat chicken fried rice due to a possible listeria contamination which can cause severe illness. The brand recalled over 13,000 pounds of the product that had been shipped to stores throughout the United States. Here are the latest details about the recall.

Freshness Guaranteed Heat & Eat Chicken Fried Rice Recall Details

An estimated 13,842 pounds of the Freshness Guaranteed Heat & Eat Chicken Fried Rice was sold to stores nationwide, including at select Walmart locations, beginning on Nov 10. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced the recall on Dec. 6, after reviewing test results that showed it tested positive for L. monocytogenes. If you have purchased ready-to-eat chicken fried rice within the last few weeks and still have them in your refrigerator or freezer, you should check the label before consuming it.

The chicken fried rice with the GTIN number EST. P-31993 were impacted by the recall with the FSIS announcing the following on its website:

“12-oz. trays containing Freshness Guaranteed brand “CHICKEN FRIED RICE DICED CHICKEN MEAT WITH VEGETABLES AND RICE IN A SAVORY SOY SAUCE” with lot code WK10CFR and a best if used by date of 11/10/2024 represented on the label.”

The product may be contaminated with L. monocytogenes which can cause listeriosis, a serious infection that can make older adults, those with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women and their newborns very sick. Symptoms can be both mild and serious with anything from headache to fever, loss of balance, and convulsions.

If you’ve purchased the chicken fried rice, you’re urged to not consume the product. Instead, it’s best to either return it to the store where you brought it from or toss it out.
