If you’ve been staying up all night just so you could finish Heartstopper season 2 on Netflix, you’re certainly not alone. The adorable, British, coming-of-age series on Netflix, which just dropped its second season on August 3, is one of Netflix’s best-reviewed shows ever, based on critic and audience scores, per Forbes. And the good news is, there's more in store for Nick, Charlie, and their lovely friends.

Season 2 ends with a major cliffhanger. Nick and Charlie are about to say "I love you" for the first time ever, and viewers watch as Charlie decides whether to press “send" on an Instagram message, but everything fades to black before any resolution occurs. So it's only natural to wonder if (and when) season 3 is coming.

Here’s everything you need to know about the show and news about a third season:

What happened during season 2?

The first two things to know about Heartstopper is that it follows a two British teens as they fall in love, and that it's based on a graphic novel series by Alice Oseman. Fun fact: These graphic novels started out as a webcomic in 2016, before becoming actual books in 2019.

The series mostly follows Charlie Spring (played by Joe Locke), a teenaged boy who falls in love with his classmate, Nick Nelson (played by Kit Connor). There’s a lot of “will they/won’t they” drama as the two become more comfortable with each other. During season 1, Nick spends a lot of time trying to get comfortable with his sexuality. So, season 2 kicks off as the pair is officially a couple. Viewers even get a sweet montage of the boys canoodling to kick it all off. Three cheers for young love!

Perhaps the biggest (and best) news of all is that Nick finally comes out to his friends as bisexual and eventually to his family, with the support of Charlie and his friends. And things definitely heat up when the class takes a trip to Paris!

Will there be a season 3?

Yes! When Netflix announced there would be both a season 2, the show's creator and writer, Alice Oseman announced that season 3 was also in the works. “We were overjoyed with the global reaction to Heartstopper and can’t wait to continue the story with two more seasons. Watch this space!" Oseman said, per a Netflix press release.

And while Oseman didn't say what, exactly, would happen in season 3, she hinted that it would revolve around the word "Love." So, grab those tissues and get ready for some Grade-A romance, folks.

When will it be released?

That's still unclear. The latest season *just* dropped, and with the WGA strike, all future TV plans are a bit up in the air. Plus, the first two seasons dropped about 1.5 years apart, so fans could be waiting up to two years before they get to know what happened with Charlie's text message.

Who will be in the cast?

That's also not totally clear, either, but there isn't any indication that any of the major cast members are *not* returning. The only character who is leaving for season 3 is Ben (Sebastian Croft), per Netflix.

Is there a trailer?

Not yet! Stay tuned as more details about this adorable show’s third season are revealed. But hey, there's nothing stopping you from rewatching seasons 1 and 2 while you wait.
