Heartbreaking Video of Dog Mourning the Loss of Her Daughter Is Gut-Wrenching

A mother always knows when she's lost her child, even if she's a pup. Just like one Keeshond on the internet. The senior dog named Cora recently lost her daughter, Aisha. And video of Cora mourning the loss of her off-spring is just so heartbreaking.

The 19-year-old dog was devastated and seemed to know what happened before her owners did.

As her mama, @missyminzi_ tried to explain, mother and daughter were "inseparable" for 16 years.

"Now Aisha has died. And although Cora is blind and deaf, she knows exactly what happened," their owner explained in the video's onscreen caption. "I wish I could take this pain away from her."

The footage shows Cora breathing heavily. When her mama reached over to pet her head she whined in emotional pain.

"Cora didn't just realize what happened, she probably knew it before we did," her mom explained in the caption. "On Aisha's last day on earth Cora already started to cry."

After Aisha's death, Cora "cried for up to 6 hours without a break and ran in circles until her legs could no longer carry her."

"It breaks my heart to see her like this," the dog mom added.

The mom admitted that she has always been scared of the day when "one [dog] would leave before the other, because their bond was so incredibly strong," she wrote. "Until the end, I thought I would let them go together."

But sadly that wasn't the case.

"When I see Cora like this, I honestly don't know if it was the right decision not to," she admitted. "I hope we can help her to find some happiness again."

Do Dogs Grieve?

While dogs can't exactly tell us what they're thinking, they do have feelings. Dogs show their emotions through behaviors and actions, and they have the ability to feel a range of emotions, including grief.

It can be hard to help your dog if they're grieving. Signs that a dog is mourning are similar to a human's. They become depressed and listless, they have a decreased appetite and won't play as often. Grieving dogs might sleep more than usual and move more slowly, almost sulking around the home.

People in the comments section were heartbroken over Cora's loss. "Awe my heart goes out to her," wrote one person. "Sixteen and 19… The amazing care you gave to have their bodies last this long is amazing . Prayers for the one you lost," someone else chimed in. "Keeshonds are such a loving and loyal breed to everyone in their circle. Poor girl," a third commenter lamented.

Luckily, Cora has a good mama who is there for her. But our hearts' go out to pup who will probably always miss her girl.
