In Celebrity Land, everyone is connected. So buckle up, because it’s time for a story about Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Taylor Swift, and Ed Sheeran. But first, let’s go full “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon” on this famous foursome, shall we?

Liam Payne was in a band you may have heard of with some dude named Harry Styles. Styles dated Taylor Swift, and is the alleged subject of a good portion of her fifth album 1989.

Swift is a good friend and collaborator (remember “Everything Has Changed”?) of Ed Sheeran’s. Sheeran and Payne have also made music together. Plus, they are both from the U.K., and we all know that everybody from the U.K. knows each other.

All that to say, of course Payne has a weird, random story involving Styles, Swift and Sheeran.

Oh, and his own parents. It happened when they were all riding an elevator together.

This incident occurred after a One Direction show where Sheeran made a guest appearance. After some light sleuthing, this story probably took place in December 2012, when One Direction performed at Madison Square Garden. That also happens to be the month of the famed Haylor (Harry + Taylor) in Central Park picture.

Anywho, the story goes like this:

“I got in a lift once, my parents were there, this is a really random story,” Liam recently told Z100, according to Teen Vogue. “And Taylor Swift was in the lift. I was in the lift, Harry was in the lift, Ed Sheeran, and my parents. And the lift was going up and he just kept going turning around to me going, ‘Bass.’ And that’s all he was saying. ‘Bass.’ So that’s one of my favorite party stories.”

Ok, so it’s not the best celebrities-in-an-elevator story ever. (Looking at you, Solange.) But at least we can confirm that Ed Sheeran is a weird, loveable dude.

Good story, Liam. Maybe you had to be there.
