Healthy Himalayan Senior Cat Surrendered to Be Euthanized Saved by Rescue Just in Time

The reason for the surrender is just heartbreaking.

Surrendering a pet is something we never, ever suggest doing. Although, we do understand in certain instances people are unable to care for their pets anymore such as an owner's health declining or maybe they financially can't afford a pet anymore. As long as it's not what this owner did to this senior cat.

This adorable healthy, senior Himalayan cat was surrendered to be euthanized for the saddest reason ever. The story, reported by People, said this cat named Lulu was originally brought to the vet to be euthanized, but luckily, a New York-based animal shelter stepped in to save the day. Check out the full story here.

Aww, poor Lulu! We wish we could just tell her that she is so loved and that should've never happened to her. We're so thankful this vet stepped in and asked the owner to sign over ownership to them, which is how they were able to save Lulu and bring her to the Dutchess County SPCA.

The worst part about this is that Lulu's litterbox problem was easily fixable. "The reason for her not using the litter box was that she had urinary crystals — a common ailment in cats, especially of her breed — and the issue was resolved with a simple diet change. Since she has been here, she has not had any problems with the litter box," the Executive Director of Dutchess County SPCA Lynne Meloccaro told People.

Twitter user @IAMDANIELBARR responded, "People are awful." You can say that again. We just wish this owner would've reached out to a vet or pet expert on how to fix this situation. If you're interested in adopting Lulu, please visit the Dutchess County SPCA website for more information. Let's show this cat how much she is loved!
