Classes

SOUTH BEND — RiverBend Cancer Services Wellness House, 3516 E. Jefferson Blvd., will offer the following “Living Well with Cancer” classes. All classes are free and open to cancer patients, survivors, their families, and caregivers; please pre-register for all classes by calling 574-287-4197 or e-mail programs@riverbendservices.org.

GOSHEN — Chair Yoga will be offered by the Elkhart County Parks at 9:30 a.m. April 11 in the Ox Bow Haus Shelter in Ox Bow Park, 23033 County Road 45. Chair Yoga is a gentle form of yoga that is done while seated or using a chair for balance. Wear comfortable clothing. Some mats are available, bring your own if you have one. This is a free class for those 12 years and older. No registration is required.

SOUTH BEND — The St. Joseph County Public Library is offering “Yoga for EveryBODY” from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. April 10 in Beutter-Kernan Hall, Community Learning Center, 305 S. Michigan St.

BUCHANAN — The Buchanan Area Senior Center, 810 Rynearson St., 269-695-7119, offers the following exercise classes and health checks through the end of April. The exercise room is open all hours BASC is open.

• Mondays: 10 a.m. Chair fitness with Linda; 11 a.m. Dancing to the Oldies with CeCe; 2 p.m. Qigong exercise.

• Tuesdays: 9 a.m. Osteo fit with Missy; 5:30 p.m. Powerbeats with Missy.

• Wednesdays: 10:15 a.m. Chair fitness with CeCe.

• Thursdays: 11 a.m. Chair yoga.

• Fridays: 9 a.m. Powerbeats with Missy; 10 a.m. Chair fitness with Lizz.

• Blood Pressure Checks — Always Best Care Senior Services will be at the BASC from 10 to 10:30 a.m. on April 11 and April 25.

• Hearing Aid Checks — Dr. Michelle Ridenour from Miracle Ear, will be at the center from 2 to 3 p.m. April 16, to check ears for wax, clean hearing aids, and answer questions. Call the BASC to register.

• Senior Nutrition – SNS/Meals on Wheels of SW Michigan announces the meal site in the Center is open. Lunch starts at noon. Call Kerri at 269-695-7119 by 10 a.m. Monday-Friday to reserve your meal the next business day. Seating is limited. Ask about home delivery service for qualifying homebound seniors. Must be 60 years or older.

• Pamper Your Feet — Monthly foot clinic through Blessed Feet, LLC, beginning at 9 a.m. April 11. Initial appointment fee is $40; all subsequent appointments will cost $30 (checks payable to Blessed Feet, LLC). Not covered under any insurance. Call the BASC to schedule an appointment.

• Fireside Chats with Gayla, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., April 11: Group Chat - bring your topic to the table; April 25: Group discussion on grief.

Events

NORTH LIBERTY — Kathryn Lyndes, associate professor of social work and gerontology at Saint Mary’s College will present the workshop “Breaking the Loss Silence: How a loss timeline can help us age with dignity” from 10:30 a.m. to noon April 6. Learn how loss impacts the aging process. This workshop introduces loss as an important part of aging and explores how documenting losses through a simple timeline can help us acknowledge, accept, and process loss as a valid gateway to discovering what is meaningful. This event is for adults and will be held at the St. Joseph Public Library – North Liberty Branch, 105 E. Market St.

Support Groups

MICHIGAN CITY — Franciscan Health offers a monthly stroke support group for stroke survivors, their families, and caregivers. The group will meet at 2 p.m. CDT on the second Tuesday of each month in the Mother Maria Theresia Conference Room at Franciscan Health Michigan City, 3500 Franciscan Way. Attendees can park in the main entrance parking lot and enter through Entrance A. Guest speakers will present educational information related to stroke recovery during each monthly session. The support group is free and pre-registration is not required. For more information contact Kelly at Kelly.Wise@franciscanalliance.org. The next meeting will be held April 9.

NILES — The Niles-Buchanan YMCA offers a free, in-person grief support group for adults who have experienced the death of someone significant. This is an open-ended monthly support group which means you can attend or leave whenever you choose. The group will meet April 10 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Niles-Buchanan YMCA, 905 N. Front St. Space is limited. Register by calling 269-429-7100.

ST. JOSEPH — When you are grieving it can be tough getting out and socializing again. Help ease the transition by joining us the second Friday of every month for “Just Coffee” from 9 to 11 a.m. at Lory’s Place, 445 Upton Drive. Meet this month on April 12.
