HBO's “Euphoria” to Suspend Production Due to Coronavirus Concerns

Euphoria just started production on its much-anticipated second season, but the HBO series is now pressing pause as a precaution against the novel coronavirus, COVID-19.

Just a day after we got a cute ~behind-the-scenes~ glimpse of our faves at a table read, things have reportedly changed. According to Deadline, Euphoria is one of many TV shows to be delayed due to the virus. WarnerMedia Group, which owns HBO, released an official statement regarding the shutdown, saying: “In response to the global emergency related to COVID-19, we are working closely with our creative teams to assess the status of each of our series in accordance with the guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as local health and government officials. We will suspend production on some of our series currently filming and will delay those scheduled to start imminently. The health and safety of our employees, casts and crews is our number one priority.”

Many other studios and services have delayed production on their movies and TV shows, including Netflix, which hit pause on production of shows like Stranger Things, while Disney TV is postponing production of pilots and current titles. The CW’s Riverdale also halted filming after someone on its team reportedly came in contact with the virus. Major events like SXSW and Coachella have been canceled or postponed as the nation works to contain the spread of the contagious virus.

It’s not known how long things will be delayed, or if the shutdown will impact Euphoria’s return to our TV screens; the second season of the show was set to premiere this year. While we’re majorly bummed that we might have to wait a bit longer to catch up with Rue and Jules, it’s an understandable and necessary precaution to protect the health of its cast and crew, and that’s something we should all support.
