HBO has officially confirmed that a new Game of Thrones prequel is on its way. Earlier this month, reports indicated that HBO was in talks to produce another prequel, focusing on Aegon I Targaryen.

Since the initial announcement, more details have surfaced during Warner Bros. Discovery's presentation to the press about MAX. The upcoming prequel is set to be based on the Dunk and Eggs books from George R.R. Martin. The series is set to follow the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall, also known as Dunk, and the young Aego V Targaryen, Egg. The events occur 90 years before A Song of Ice and Fire. At the moment, the series is titled, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight.

The official plotline states, "A century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros...a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends." Marting will also be the writer and executive producer. This is the latest Westeros-based project at HBO. There is no further information on the timeline of its release.
