Since publishing our first issue in 1896, House Beautiful has been in the business of sharing the stories of beautiful homes for 125 years. But what about the beautiful homes whose walls tell a different, more sinister, story? Just in time for Halloween, House Beautiful editors and co-hosts Alyssa Fiorentino and Hadley Mendelsohn are putting the spotlight on the most haunted houses in the country, unpacking the events that took place there and the reputations they left behind. Enter Dark House, a brand new podcast that combines true crime, ghost stories, interior design, spirituality, and history, all while keeping a sense of humor with a touch of drama.

Meet the Hosts...

In the first episode, which will be released on September 29, you'll get to know the hosts as they share the personal ghost stories and homes that made them paranormal obsessives and believers. You'll also hear from a renowned professor of anthropology, Tok Thompson, on why haunted house ghost stories are such an important cultural staple—and what we can learn from them. Putting it to practice in the episodes that follow each Wednesday leading up to Halloween, you'll be introduced to four infamous houses and the mysterious details of how each one fell from grace.

From a quintessential farmhouse forever marked by the grisly events of one terrible night in 1912 to a quaint Hollywood Tudor hiding an ugly curse, Alyssa and Hadley will research who lived there (and died there) and the strange stories that suggest their spirits never left. In each episode, after they discuss the house and region in question, they'll be joined by a guest who specializes in the realm of the paranormal. You'll meet a horror show production designer, a self-proclaimed ghost magnet, a comedian-turned-paranormal investigator, and an author who also happens to be a psychic medium.
