The original Hatchimals popped onto the scene back in 2016 and created a Tickle-Me-Elmo-meets-Beanie-Babies level of fandom. Stores were sold out, parents were frantic, and some refer to the turbulent times as the great Hatchimal crisis of 2016. Kids loved them because they could watch their toy literally hatch open like a chick. The problem, however, was that once the egg was hatched, the exciting process couldn't be relived. That changes now! The new Hatchimals WOW critter can be put back in its egg and hatched over and over and over, until your little one's heart is content!

While the Hatchimal wave has been rolling for the last 3 years, the Hatchimal WOW, officially available for purchase on Oct. 1, has to be one of the franchise's most anticipated releases. Heres the thing: Coming from a mom, kids are perpetually bored. It takes quite a bit of innovation, a lot of bells and whistles, and few sprinkles of mysterious magic to make this generation of little ones say wow and mean it.

My 6-year-old whines from boredom in a 5-minute car ride to go to an activity, so I get it. I am constantly searching for toys for him that are age-appropriate, interesting, and will hold his attention for more than 15 seconds instead of being tossed into the once-loved graveyard of toys that we call the play bin. When I was presented with the opportunity to check out the latest Hatchimal WOW Lalacorn (thats the creature that's created when a unicorn and a llama love each other very, very much), I literally cleared my calendar. A toy that sounds like it has enough gusto to impress my 6-year-old for over 2 weeks? I had to see it!

The time had finally come for me to lay my eyes on the newest Hatchimal and I wont lie, I was beyond excited. When the bright pink egg was presented, I knew I was in for a treat. The Hatchimal handler started to rub and coax the glittery, two-piece egg to crack open and reveal the furry friend inside. After about a minute of cuddles and hugs, the eyes, which you could see peering out from the inside, started to change into an array of rainbow colors, and a light tune filled the room. Meanwhile, cut to my grown adult face and Im smiling ear-to-ear because the anticipation was dizzying in a delightful way. Finally, the egg cracked open and out jumped a 3-foot-tall, dancing and singing, fuzzy unicorn-esque creature, and my 1995-era 6-year-old self was in mouth-gaping awe.

About a week or so later, my very own Hatchimal WOW showed up to my office, and after stalking the mail guy the entire morning, I was ready to see my newest unicorn-llama mix, Lalacorn, hatch.

I called around a few coworkers, and after some encouraging words, rubs, and rocking, our egg hatched! I read through the instructions to figure out how to interact with some of the 250 sounds and reactions. Honestly, it would take no less than 6 months of consistent play for me to discover all that this baby can do. I loved that the Lalacorns changing eye colors indicated different moods and emotions, helping to guide kiddos into finding new ways to play. It made it easy for me to jump around the instructions and dive into getting to know my newest BFF.

When the creators of Hatchimal were coming up with their newest, genius product, they turned to Hatchimal lovers to find out what features they needed to include to take it to the next level. Yes, this Hatchimal WOW has many of the classic features consistent with the past toys like being able to talk, play games like hide-and-seek, and interact with touch and sound. But this mythical creature is the first ever re-hatching Hatchimal on the market. Many parents and kids hated that once their egg was hatched, they couldnt go through that exciting anticipation anymore of watching their furry friend come out of its shell. The Hatchimal WOW can be put back inside of its egg, resealed, and hatched repeatedly.

The Lalacorn also is the only Hatchimal that expresses its 10 surprise emotions through movement by extending its extra long neck and shrinking back down while your kid interacts with it. Your kid will love the familiar features, but will be absolutely consumed by all that this new Hatchimal has to offer. I think its safe to say that boredom will no longer be a word in your little ones vocab!

Hatchimals have already proven to be the it toy on the market every single year with a fandom that only seems to grow. The Hatchimal WOW is honestly the toy that my side-ponytailed, 90s-era 6-year-old self deserved.
