The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their second child together, a baby girl they named Lilibet "Lili" Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, on Friday, June 4, and shared the news with the world on Sunday afternoon. In a statement shared by the Sussexes' press secretary, the couple revealed that their daughter's name honors two important women in Harry's life: his grandmother, the queen, and his late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales. Lilibet is a nickname members of the royal family sometimes use for the queen, specifically her husband, Prince Philip, who passed away at the age of 99 in April.

A palace source confirms to BAZAAR that Harry did indeed inform the queen of his and Meghan's naming plans before Lili's birth.

Baby Lilibet's nickname, Lili, also reportedly has a special meaning dedicated to Meghan's mother, Doria Ragland. According to People, the nickname is an ode to Ragland calling Meghan "Flower" while she was growing up. Per the outlet, Meghan once signed one of the posts on her now-defunct lifestyle blog, The Tig, as "Meg, MM, M&M, and Flower (which my mom has called me since I was little)."

Both Meghan and baby Lili are "healthy and well, and settling in at home," with Meghan and Harry taking parental leave as they get accustomed to their new lives as a family of four. "Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family," the couple wrote on their Archewell website following the baby news.
