Harry Styles Is Reportedly Being Considered for the Role of Prince Eric in Disney’s Live-Action The Little Mermaid

He could join Halle Bailey, who has already been cast as Ariel.

The latest casting report for Disney's upcoming live action The Little Mermaid is particularly neat, especially if you're a fan of One Direction. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Harry Styles is apparently being considered for the role of Prince Eric.

Nothing is confirmed yet, THR notes, but this wouldn't be the first time Harry stepped away from the concert stage to spend time on a movie set; he was in the film Dunkirk. According to THR, Harry is in "early negotiations," which means Halle Bailey, who has been cast as Ariel, hasn't found her prince just yet.

The film, which is slated to begin production in 2020, THR reports, has had a surge of recent casting news. In addition to Halle as Ariel, Melissa McCarthy is reportedly going to play Ursula, and Awkwafina and Jacob Tremblay are possibly joining the cast as Scuttle and Flounder.

Prior to Harry's rumored casting, some social media users had expressed hope that Jordan Fisher, who just signed on for To All the Boys I've Loved Before sequel, would be chosen. There's no word on whether Jordan is still in consideration, but fans of the actor will be able to see him in the TATBILB sequel when it airs on Netflix.

While fans await the official word on who Disney will choose to play Prince Eric, many on Twitter have already taken the opportunity to celebrate and share their support for Harry. "If Harry Styles gets cast as prince eric i will literally audition to play a grain of sand," Amber Scholl tweeted. Another user compiled old photographs of the singer, writing, "harry styles RADIATES prince eric energy."
