Harry Styles Opens Up About Channeling Sadness for His New Album in Rolling Stone Cover

Harry Styles took some time out from posing with chickens and inspiring our wardrobes with his always iconic style to confirm a bit of fan speculation regarding new music. His long-awaited Rolling Stone cover story arrived on Monday, August 26, and he confirmed that he is working on something new.

Speaking with the publication, Harry detailed what listeners can expect when his upcoming music does arrive. While he didn’t offer a confirmed release date, he did say the album, which is “toughest” and “most soulful yet,” is “all about having sex and feeling sad.” Welp, we’re officially intrigued.

In addition to opening up about the sadness that may have played a part in the recording, Harry touched on the possibility of a One Direction reunion. “If there’s a time when we all really want to do it, that’s the only time for us to do it, because I don’t think it should be about anything else other than the fact that we’re all like, ‘Hey, this was really fun. We should do this again,’” he said. “But until that time, I feel like I’m really enjoying making music and experimenting. I enjoy making music this way too much to see myself doing a full switch, to go back and do that again. Because I also think if we went back to doing things the same way, it wouldn’t be the same, anyway.”

For now, it appears as if you’ll have to continue holding out hope for a 1D reunion, but Harry did shared a continued appreciation for his longtime fans, particularly his female followers. “You want honest people as your audience,” he said. “We’re so past that dumb outdated narrative of ‘Oh, these people are girls, so they don’t know what they’re talking about.’ They’re the ones who know what they’re talking about. They’re the people who listen obsessively. They f-cking own this sh-t. They’re running it.”
