Former Directioners (me) and seasoned music critics alike (also me) can agree that Harry Styles had the most amazing 2020—you know, pandemic aside. After releasing his critically acclaimed sophomore effort, Fine Line, Harry’s solo career started soaring to unbelievable heights. Like...did you know the album sold 2 million-plus copies and was streamed more than 1.6 BILLION times? Right. That being said, it makes total sense that the Grammy Awards invited Harry to perform his hit single, “Watermelon Sugar,” for the ceremony’s opening tonight.

I truly do not know what we did to be blessed with such perfection tonight from Harry, but when he stepped on the stage to serenade me us all...SHIRTLESS AND IN LEATHER...my soul left my body. I mean, just LOOK:

And based on the Twitter reactions, Harry’s devoted fans seem to agree wholeheartedly:

JSYK, Harry is nominated for three awards tonight—"Watermelon Sugar" is nominated for Best Pop Solo Performance, “Adore You” is up for Best Music Video, and Fine Line is in the running for Best Pop Vocal Album. Not too shabby for Harry’s first time being nominated!

Speaking with Variety about the noms, Harry said, “It’s always nice to know that people like what you’re doing, but ultimately—and especially working in a subjective field—I don’t put too much weight on that stuff.” Harry added that he believes “it’s important when making any kind of art to remove the ego from it,” and cited painter Henri Matisse: “It’s about the work that you do when you’re not expecting any applause.”

Now, if you need me, I will be fawning over Harry’s performance for now/all of eternity, whichever comes first.
