‘Harry Potter: The Exhibition’ brings the wizarding world to NYC this summer: ‘There’s something for everybody’

Attention, Potterheads: If you live in the New York City area or are thinking of traveling there this summer, you can now immerse yourself even further into the wizarding world of Harry Potter.

On Friday, May 19, Harry Potter: The Exhibition arrives in NYC’s Herald Square, and it’s likely a truly one-of-a-kind experience.

According to a press release from Imagine Exhibitions, Inc., guests can pick their very own Patronus, cast a spell of their choosing, test their Quidditch skills and brew magic potions right in the heart of Manhattan at 34th Street and Broadway. They’ll also get to walk through a series of interactive galleries, including the Hogwarts Castle Gallery, which features “an immersive multimedia experience” filled with iconic elements from the books and movies, like the Whomping Willow and Marauder’s Map.

In The Know by Yahoo recently caught up with Tom Zaller, the president and CEO of Imagine Exhibitions, to get the full story on what else fans can look forward to.

“Harry Potter: The Exhibition is an immersive walk-through into the Harry Potter world where you get to see these original props and costumes, set in beautiful environments, personalized on a journey for you as a fan at whatever level you’re at,” Zaller said.

“You don’t know what you’re going to get when you come in here,” he added, “but everybody loves it.”

The exhibit takes up over 30,000 square feet and features original props from the movies you won’t see anywhere else. You’ll also get treated to a state-of-the-art user experience the whole way through because each ticket holder receives a watch to wear during the tour that’s pre-registered before the experience starts. (This is where you’ll pick your Hogwarts house, Patronus and more.)

Then, once you start walking through the exhibit, you’ll be able to interact with multimedia elements along the way and get a personalized experience based on the preferences you entered while registering.

According to Zaller, “There’s something for everybody,” no matter their age or fandom level.

There’s even a gift shop at the end, packed with Harry Potter merch and themed treats like Chocolate Frogs and bottled Butterbeer!

Zaller’s favorite part about launching the exhibit has been “creating the unexpected for people” around every corner.

As for what fans can expect?

“They can expect to have fun, they can expect to be greeted in a cool way, they can expect to have magic happen around them and be set in this very intimate, familiar world,” Zaller told In The Know. “They can expect to have a good time, I’ll say that.”

Pulling this all together certainly wasn’t an easy feat. To make it happen, Imagine Exhibitions worked in partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery Themed Entertainment (WBDTE) and EMC Presents in what eventually became a huge creative effort.

But now that the experience is off the ground and has officially arrived in the Big Apple, Zaller said the teams couldn’t be happier.

“New York City is the center of the universe,” said the CEO, who called it an “epic” place to bring the exhibition just one year after it launched in Philadelphia.

As for when it ends, Zaller said that has yet to be decided but does refer to it as a limited engagement. At the very least, he assured fans it would run through the summer to give people plenty of time to get there.
