Sometimes a leave of absence really is just a leave of absence. But is that the case for Detective Bobby Reyes (Rick Gonzalez) on Law & Order: Organized Crime? All season long, Detective Reyes has been going through a bit of a personal crisis, grieving the loss of his colleague Jamie Whelan (Brett Antonello) and dealing with the fallout of an extramarital affair with coworker Jet (Ainsley Seiger). When he made the surprising decision to take a step back from work to finalize his divorce and focus on healing, viewers wondered: Was his leave permanent?

What happened to Reyes on Law & Order: Organized Crime?

In Season 4, Episode 6 ("Beyond the Sea"), as the team worked to support Stabler (Christopher Meloni) in his pursuit of a Long Island serial killer, Reyes began gathering his things. When Jet confronted him, he explained that he was taking a leave of absence.

"This is because of me," he said when Jet asked if it was because of their affair, going on to explain that he "went off the rails" when Whelan died at the end of last season. Plus, his marriage had been rocky for a while, and while therapy was helping, "being here isn't," he said.

"I signed the divorce papers this morning," he continued. "It’s been unofficial for months. But now it’s real. And my kids, they don’t get it. I need to be with them, and try to put myself back together while I’m at it."

When Jet asked what she can do to help, Reyes said, "I could use a friend when I get back."

Is Rick Gonzalez leaving Law & Order: Organized Crime?

No. Parade can confirm that Gonzalez will, in fact, be back as Reyes, but he will be absent for at least one episode that may truly test the Organized Crime team. In "Original Sin," airing March 14, Stabler is still on the hunt for whoever is kidnapping and murdering women on Long Island, and while the case is not exactly in his jurisdiction, that's not stopping him from going all in.

Bobby Reyes, an expert undercover detective, joined the Organized Crime team at the beginning of Season 3 and worked closely with Jamie Whelan, becoming good friends with him despite their different crime-fighting styles. Reyes watched Whelan get shot, and then denied his friend's request to help end his life after the shot paralyzed him. In the end, Whelan's dad did the deed.

Despite being married and having kids, Reyes hooked up with Jet after Whelan's funeral, and began living in his car ahead of his divorce. His bosses had begun to notice that something was wrong, and it was definitely time for a little break. Hopefully that break won't last too long.
