Roseanne came back to television Tuesday night, after years of being off the air. And the ABC reboot brought back Roseanne, Dan, both Beckys, and all the characters fans know and love - except for one. Whatever happened to Jerry?

For some background: Jerry Garcia Conner is the youngest child of Roseanne and Dan Conner. His birth was shown during the show’s Halloween episode in Season 8, and he was played by twin babies Cole and Morgan Roberts. In a dream sequence during the series, Roseanne, holding a baby, was visited by the late Jerry Garcia, the Grateful Dead singer and inspiration behind her baby’s name.

According to Mental Floss, Roseanne’s character announced her pregnancy during the show’s seventh season, but then Roseanne Barr herself became pregnant three months later, so her character ended up being pregnant for over a year on the show. During the show, Roseanne and Dan were initially told they were expecting a girl, but the sex of the baby changed because Roseanne Barr wanted to reflect her real-life baby, who was a boy, and also wanted to honor Jerry Garcia.

In the new season, Roseanne explains what happened to Jerry, who would be in his twenties by now, while the family says grace at the table. "Please watch over our son Jerry who's on that stupid fishing boat, where apparently they don't get phone calls," Roseanne says. And that’s that - for now. PopSugar reports that the people behind the series are hoping to address both Jerry and Andy, Jackie’s son, in future seasons.
