"Hannah Montana" Star Emily Osment Said the Show Made Her Grow Up Faster
Disney Channel's classic Hannah Montana has been enjoying something of a resurgence as of late, what with star Miley Cyrus bringing it up when asked about her musical career, and Millie Bobby Brown saying the show taught her how to do an American accent. Hannah has also been on the mind of one of Miley's costars, Emily Osment, who took a moment to reflect on the show's impact on her life and how it prepared her for her future.
Emily, who played Miley Stewart's best friend Lilly Truscott (AKA Lola Luftnagle, Hannah Montana's assistant), shared a heartfelt Instagram post about the show and how it changed her. It's a pic of herself and Miley in casual clothes, standing on an empty set and looking at each other.
"This is one of my favorite photos from HM. Have no idea who took it or why the great room set is empty on a tape night, but I have a physical copy of it from a disposable camera and now it’s on the internet," Emily wrote. "I spent a couple hundred Friday nights here instead of all the places a normal teenager should have been and it made me an adult faster than I could prepare myself for. However, I am grateful to have been handed a sense of accountability and purpose at such a young age because I still have it — and then some."
The lessons she learned on the Hannah set have obviously been near and dear to Emily's heart as she continues her career journey. She's been doing some acting over the past few years (she led Freeform's Young & Hungry for five seasons), but is also focused on her music career; Emily records under the name Bluebiird and released an EP called When I Loved You in 2019. She and Miley recently reunited on Miley's IG Live show Bright Minded to talk about their Hannah Montana days, taking a trip down memory lane while looking at old pics from the show. Even though it's been almost ten years since Hannah Montana went off the air, it's obvious that the show built some strong friendships and laid the groundwork for both Emily and Miley's subsequent careers.
