And while displaying an American flag in front of your house is a traditional choice (here's where to buy a flag if you don't already have one), we love the look of a patriotic flag bunting on a house, fluttering in the summer air.

And hanging bunting flags is easier than you think! Simply acquire some red, white, and blue bunting fabric, and we'll show you how to hang it. How to Hang a Bunting for 4th of July

Follow these simple how-to instructions to hang your patriotic bunting on your front porch (or anywhere outside!). You should be able to hang the bunting in under an hour.

Supplies Needed

  • Measuring tape

  • Patriotic bunting

  • Scissors

  • Serger or sewing machine

  • Thumbtacks or duct tape for hanging

Step 1: Choose Hanging Spot

Bunting flags look best when hung from a porch railing, along the roofline, or under each window. Choose your spot wisely, as the surface will determine how you'll attach the bunting.

Step 2: Measure and Cut

Measure the length of the spot you want your bunting to hang. Then measure and trim the amount of bunting fabric ($17, Party City) you need, cutting away any excess fabric along the scalloped edge. Finish the edge by serging it or sewing a row of stay stitching. If you don't want to use a continuous piece of bunting fabric for this project, you can also purchase individual printed cotton fan flags ($11, Target) and hang each piece next to each other to get the same look.

Step 3: Hang and Adjust

Hang the bunting from your desired spot. If it's a pliable surface, attach with thumbtacks or use small Command Strips with wire hooks ($6, Target). Otherwise, adhere the bunting with duct tape.

Editor's Tip: Printed bunting flags are realistically shaded and will look as though draped bunting is fluttering in the wind, even when the yardage is tightly stretched.
