Over the last decade, Amazon’s Fire line of tablets has always been geared toward shoppers on a budget, but the brand’s new Fire Max 11 has a sleeker design with slim bezels and a more premium aluminum build. Amazon says it’s their biggest, most powerful, and versatile tablet yet.

I tested the Fire Max 11 for a week and immediately noticed that it both looked and felt more premium. The tablet sports a vivid 11-inch high-resolution touchscreen display and packs either 64- or 128 GB of storage space depending on which configuration you opt for. I recommend opting for the latter if you plan to download lots of videos and apps.

The tablet’s 2.2 GHz processor was plenty of capable for both work and playing games. The tablet is equipped with 4 GB of RAM and I had no issues multitasking. The split-screen mode came in handy for joining conference calls while taking notes on the other half of the display. Amazon says you can expect up to 14 hours of battery life. For what it’s worth, I clocked in around 11 hours of use, which was plenty of juice to get through my work day.

Lastly, it's worth mentioning that Amazon offers bundles that include a keyboard and/or a stylus. I only recommend these additional accessories if you or the person you’re gifting the tablet to plans to crank out emails, take notes, or write large chunks of text. Overall, the Fire Max 11 is an outstanding and highly capable tablet that’s three times cheaper than competing tablets like the iPad Pro.

Kindle 11th Generation

If your budget is around $100, this entry-level Kindle offers very few compromises and still delivers an outstanding reading experience.

The device comes in black or blue and although it features a smaller display and fewer LED lights than Amazon's other Kindles, it still has a generous 300 ppi resolution. The screen is responsive, backlit, easy on the eyes, and refreshes fast.

Even though it has a shorter battery life than other Kindle models — you get 6 weeks, compared to the other model's 10 weeks — that's still plenty of time to read on your vacation without worrying about finding an outlet.

We appreciate that this model comes with 16GB of storage space — previous iterations only had 8GB, so you'll be able to store thousands of books. It is worth mentioning that this model is not waterproof. So, if you want to take your Kindle to the pool or the beach, you may be better off spending $40 more on the Paperwhite model.

Fire 7 Tablet

The Fire 7 tablet features a fast processor, 16GB of storage space, and a microSD card slot, all while still maintaining a budget-friendly price point.

The Ring Video Doorbell 4 is one of the most feature-filled smart doorbells you can buy. It wires to your existing doorbell line (or can be powered by a battery), and offers a sharp 1080p picture with a wide-angle lens, so you can see everything at your doorstep.

You receive instant alerts (and quick preview clips) to your smartphone when visitors press the doorbell or trigger a motion sensor. You can also watch a live feed anytime on your smartphone, tablet, or computer, making it a useful tool for monitoring new Amazon Prime packages on your porch.

Shoppers on a budget should consider the cheaper Blink Video Doorbell. That model costs just $60, but its camera isn't as advanced: It doesn't detect people and the night vision is significantly less powerful.

The Echo Show 8 is the perfect smart home companion, and you can easily control your smart devices with either your voice or a simple tap of your finger. It also works wonderfully for video calls or streaming video on services like Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, and Hulu.

Amazon Echo Studio

The Echo Studio offers more immersive, room-filling sound than any other Amazon speaker, since it can sense the acoustics of your space automatically. It's equipped with five directional speakers that provide a highly immersive sound, and supports Dolby's Atmos tech to add even more depth to your music. You can even connect one or two Echo Studios to your Amazon Fire TV for audio playback.

For the audiophiles out there, this baby has three midrange 2-inch speakers, a 1-inch tweeter, and a large 5.25-inch woofer.

Compared to the Amazon Echo Plus, it has a larger footprint, a physical mic mute switch, and the ability to be paired to your Fire TV for surround sound. If you want the clearest, most premium-sounding Echo speaker, this is the one to buy.

Ring Alarm — 8-Piece Kit (2nd Generation)

The Ring's eight-piece security kit comes with a base station, a keypad, four contact sensors, a motion detector, a range extender, and a video doorbell. The eight-piece kit is designed for mid-sized homes but you can easily add more sensors to the system if you need additional window sensors.

The fifth-generation Echo Dot shares the same globe-like design as its sibling, the Echo — but measuring in at just 3.9 inches wide and 3.9 inches tall, it's much smaller. It comes in the same colors (charcoal, glacier white, or twilight blue), but is around half the cost. It also has motion sensors so you can tap at the top of the speaker to play/pause songs, end calls, stop timers, and snooze alarms.

Hands down the Echo Dot is the best bedside speaker since it’s equipped with an LED display that shows the time, alarms, and outdoor temperature all at once. You can conveniently tap the top of the Dot to snooze your alarm, too.

For those who find the clock too distracting, Amazon also sells a clock-free variant that's a little bit cheaper.

Are you cutting the cord on cable? Consider purchasing this Fire TV bundle to save some dough and get free access to cable channels. It allows you to record local channels such as ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox (among others) in high definition for free: Just make sure that you also purchase an antenna.
