Costco

Costco has it all. Do you need a year’s worth of toilet paper? How about a few gold bars, a rotisserie chicken, some gasoline, a ghillie suit, or a giant teddy bear? Costco has you covered, and one of the newest additions to the widespread catalog is a super sleek DIY greenhouse kit.

Home improvement company Palram Canopia makes a wide range of greenhouses, gazebos, sheds, patio covers, door awnings, and more, but this greenhouse is something special.

The Harmony 6' x 8' Greenhouse with Starter Kit, sold in-store and online at Costco, includes clear polycarbonate panels, a rust-resistant aluminum frame, a built-in gutter system, vent window, a galvanized steel base, an accessory pack, and shipping and handling is included in the total cost.

And if it sounds expensive, you'll be glad to know it comes in at under $800.

Easy to Assemble

The best part about the greenhouse? You can put it up in your backyard in just a couple of hours. One reviewer said it arrived at their house in three boxes and, with the help of another person, the two had the entire structure up in five hours.

Other reviewers noted that it isn’t effortless to put together but, in the end, it felt a lot like “LEGO for grown-ups.”

Because the Harmony greenhouse walls and roof panels are made of polycarbonate, which is a strong, glass-like polymer, the light transmission creates the perfect environment for a happy and healthy greenhouse.

It has all the light transmission benefits of glass without the associated drawbacks, like how weak glass can be in the face of flying rocks during a windstorm or while you’re mowing the lawn.

One reviewer said the poly-carbonate windows seemed “very light” when they first took the material out of the packaging but, once it was stalled, it was “very sturdy.”

The roof and walls protect plants from UV rays while providing all the full, direct light they need to thrive—perfect for germinating seeds and starting plants with warm, happy soil.

Lots of Added Features

While this greenhouse is pretty big, and you could, theoretically, use the space as an art studio or office, it’s probably best to use it primarily to grow your favorite greenery. After all, it is built to stay warm—which might not be ideal if you’re trying to take a quick work meeting.

That said, it does come with a lockable hinged door with a magnetic catch to help control the temperature and humidity in the space, and keep any valuable tools safe. The accessories included in this greenhouse are a heavy-duty shelf—perfect for displaying plants on multiple levels— as well as an auto vent opener and a plant hanger kit.

You can grow countless plants in a good greenhouse, but what they’re really spectacular at is prolonging the growing season. Because it protects your plants from wind and pests, it also ensures they’re safe before the last frost hits and after the first fall frost.
