It’s been over a year since The Handmaid’s Tale season five finale aired on Hulu. And now, there are finally new episodes on the horizon.

Hulu previously confirmed that The Handmaid’s Tale is returning for season six. Production for the drama series was initially delayed due to the writers’ and actors’ strikes, but it’s now scheduled to begin this summer. As a result, fans can expect the new episodes to premiere sometime in 2025. (Praise be!)

Although the exact release date hasn’t been announced (at least not yet), Hulu has teased other details about The Handmaid’s Tale season six, including the cast and plot. Keep scrolling for details.

1. When Is The Handmaid’s Tale Season Six Premiere Date?

Unfortunately, fans will have to wait until 2025 for the premiere of The Handmaid’s Tale season six. In an interview with Deadline, Craig Erwich (president of Disney Television Group) revealed that production on the new installment is starting soon. “The Handmaid's Tale is going to production this summer,” he said. “[It] premieres in 2025.”

The announcement came shortly after actress Elisabeth Moss spoke at a Television Critics Association panel and confirmed that she’s returning to film the new episodes. “We’re prepping right now, and we will start this summer,” she said.

2. Who’s in the Cast of The Handmaid’s Tale Season Six?

Several original cast members are expected to reprise their roles, including Moss (June Osborne, or “Offred”), Yvonne Strahovski (Serena Joy), Madeline Brewer (Ofwarren), Ann Dowd (Aunt Lydia), O-T Fagbenle (Luke Osborne), Max Minghella (Nick Blaine), Samira Wiley (Moira), Amandra Brugel (Rita), Sam Jaeger (Mark Tuello) and Bradley Whitford (Commander Joseph Lawrence).

3. What Is The Handmaid’s Tale About?

Sophie Giraud/Hulu

The story is based on Margaret Atwood’s dystopian novel of the same name, and it takes place in a futuristic totalitarian society called Gilead. Due to the plummeting birth rate, women are treated as property of the government and sold to wealthy couples who are trying to conceive. This includes a woman named June Osborne (or “Offred”), who’s taken away from her family and forced into sexual servitude.

4. Will The Handmaid’s Tale Return for Season Seven?

Sophie Giraud/Hulu

Sadly, The Handmaid’s Tale will not return for season seven. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Whitford revealed that season six will be the show’s last. “We’re gonna be going back for one more season,” he said. “And that'll be it.”
