Handling mental health during the perinatal period

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — May is Maternal Mental Health Month and Wednesday is World Maternal Health Day.

Research shows that perinatal mental health disorders affect nearly one million people every year and experts say that only 25% of them receive treatment.

One in five women and one in 10 men experience depression or anxiety during the perinatal period, experts say.

AM Extra was joined by Wendy Davis, executive director of the non-profit organization Postpartum Support International and PMH survivor, to talk more about mental health.
