All About Halston Sage, Zac Efron's 'Serious' New Girlfriend

Us Weekly dropped a bombshell today: Zac Efron broke up with his last rumored girlfriend, Sarah Bro...and now he's seriously dating actress Halston Sage. The two spent the holidays together! It's really real but also super secret.

So who exactly is Sage and how did she and Efron meet? It turns out they go way back. Here, everything you need to know about Sage and her romance with Efron.

Sage and Efron were first rumored to be dating in April 2014 after co-starring in Neighbors.

Sage and Efron, both actors, started as coworkers. But dating rumors started in the spring of 2014. The two were photographed courtside at a basketball game together, and People reported, via a source, that the two were officially dating. E! also reported it, with a source telling the outlet, "They are definitely an item. They were seeing each other a bit during filming of their movie together and ever since he went to rehab they got a lot closer. Her friends love him and say he is so sweet. He's really good to her."

Efron gushed about Sage in an April 2014 interview. "She's really sweet. She's a sweetheart," he told Access Hollywood at the time. But he didn't confirm himself they were together when pressed about his relationship status with her. "I don't know, I'm not really sure I'm in the market...I'm not investing. My money's out!" He also apparently asked the outlet about the interview they had with her. “Did you talk to her? What did she say about me?” Sage didn't say anything confirming the rumors.

When asked about their off-screen relationship, she pivoted, saying, “Everyone…we all stay in touch. It’s so good, that’s why we’re so excited to be here because we all got so close over filming.” (Sage previously talked about kissing Efron in 2013, although pretty briefly, describing their on-screen kiss as "fun.")

In July 2016, Efron made it clear to the Sunday Times that he was definitely single. “Dating is something I’ll never be able to do,” he said glumly, per the outlet. “As in the dictionary definition of dating, because one way or another I’ve impacted that person’s life and they’ll soon realize it.”

A date has to be very long to dispel whatever people think about me,” he admitted, quipping his experience on Tinder did not go well. “Amazingly, when I signed up for Tinder, nobody swiped me! They thought it was fake," then he paused. "That never happened. Aha-ha." Anyway, Sage was officially out of the picture at that point.

Sage and Efron apparently started dating again at the end of last year.

Us Weekly was told in January 2020 that the two “are in a serious relationship and in love. They spent the holidays together, with part of that time in Santa Barbara.”

Sage and Efron follow each other on Instagram, but only Sage likes Efron's posts.

The two have kept their relationship very secret on social media. Sage sporadically likes Efron's posts on his page, but she doesn't like every single Instagram. Efron, meanwhile, just follows Sage.

Sage is a 26-year-old actress currently starring on Prodigal Son and The Orville.

Sage has been working steadily over the years, doing TV and movies. TV-wise, she currently plays Ainsley Whitly on Prodigal Son and Alara Kitan on The Orville. Recent movies she was in include Late Night, X-Men: Dark Phoenix, and Netflix's The Last Summer, where she starred alongside KJ Apa.She has acted with some major young Hollywood stars, including Emma Watson in The Bling Ring and Cara Delevingne in Paper Towns.

Like Efron, Sage was also a child actress.

Sage got her start on Nickelodeon (playing Grace in How to Rock) while Efron had his big break on Disney, playing Troy Bolton on High School Musical.

Sage has dogs and loves posting them on her Instagram.

In 2015, Sage spoke to InStyle about her love of pet photos. "I like to Instagram my dogs!" she said. "I also get excited to post behind-the-scenes photos from when I was filming something."

Sage is a fashion darling, attending events for Roger Vivier and Dior.

Sage has shared shots of herself on her Instagram at fashion events. She has a keen sense of fashion, and many of her Instagrams feature her in stylish press tour looks or her dressed chicly and hanging with friends.
