Halsey's passion for makeup helped her find peace with her mental health.

The "New Americana" singer, 28, who welcomed son Ender in 2021, opened up in a new interview with Nylon about how beauty and her personal well-being "go hand in hand" as she navigates motherhood.

"I find when my mental health is better, I'm looking in the mirror less and when my mental health is worse, I'm looking in the mirror more because I'm looking for external validation when I can't find it inwards," she explained. "It's almost like when you're feeling insecure or unworthy, you break out the magnifying mirror and you want to feed into it and make it worse. So I try to reject that."

While she has her own makeup line, About Face, Halsey says she spends a significant amount of time with no makeup on at all, particularly since becoming a mom. That's because the glamour of the industry is part of her job and she wants to make a point of seeing herself fresh-faced.

"When you see yourself done up all the time and then it can be really easy to believe that you are only beautiful or worthy when you look that way," she noted.

The singer shared how it's become "exceptionally more important" to become comfortable with her looks at all times, even when she's not in full glam. She wants "to look at my face and say, 'This is who I am, this is how I look, and that is okay and I accept that.' I want to make sure that I'm setting myself up for success as I continue to age in this industry and to be at peace with that process."

Halsey also said that she believes her best secret to good skincare is actually breast milk.

"I started breastfeeding and I figured out that breast milk is the best skincare ingredient ever because it's full of antioxidants and good fats and stuff that speeds up the healing process," the singer added, pointing out that one of her favorite products is Biologique Recherche's Colostrum VG Serum, which she discovered shortly after giving birth.

The "Without Me" singer has spoken candidly about her path to motherhood, which was troubled at times. Following the news that the Supreme Court's overturned Roe v. Wade, Halsey opened up in a personal essay for Vogue titled "My Abortion Saved My Life." She shared that she had lost three pregnancies by the time she turned 24, and that while she got pregnant "with ease," she "struggled to maintain" a pregnancy in the past due in part to her endometriosis diagnosis.

"One of my miscarriages required 'aftercare,' a gentle way of saying that I would need an abortion, because my body could not terminate the pregnancy completely on its own and I would risk going into sepsis without medical intervention," she wrote. "During this procedure, I cried. I was afraid for myself and I was helpless. I was desperate to end the pregnancy that was threatening my life."

She even went as far as writing her will during her third trimester with Ender, she "was prepared for the worst." Luckily, everything turned out fine, and she's having the time of her life as a parent.

“I love it so much," the singer told Extra in 2021 of being a mom. "Every single second is the most incredible thing. Getting to watch him, like, become a new person every day is so exciting.”
