  • Halsey was just on SNL for the fifth time—and she killed it.

  • But backstage, the two-time Grammy Award nominee wanted to shed light on the realities of parenting—and posted a pic of themself pumping milk.

  • Halsey, 27, is not new to all this. In July, she told fans that the cover of her bare-chested album cover was about "eradicating the social stigma around bodies & breastfeeding."

Halsey is a new mom. And they’re making it very clear on social media that it comes with some changes to their life. A big one worth noting: They had to pump backstage while filming SNL.

Halsey shared a pic of the moment on Twitter, while sticking their tongue out at the camera. “First time for everything I guess! Tune into @nbcsnl tonight 😃,” they wrote in the caption.

People were all about it in the comments.

“I've been there and done that. Pump wherever and whenever you can. It's never easy,” one person wrote. “I love you. Showing the normal that nobody usually sees. It brings about a new era of confidence,” another said. “I'm a new mom. I have a 6-month-old baby girl and you inspire me to enjoy the not-so-seen or talked-about normal that a lot of moms go through.”

Halsey also posted a series of pics on Instagram about how people keep talking about their postpartum body. “I did SNL two nights ago and a lot of people were quick to say how good I looked. That was a weird feeling,” they captioned several photos of themselves after having their son, Ender. “My body has felt like a stranger’s for a long time. I uphold myself to honesty to the point of over sharing sometimes but this feels important.”

Halsey said that their body is "still changing and I am letting it. I have no interest in working out right now. I’m too tired and too busy playing with my darling son. With that being said, the body behind all those compliments the other night was wearing a custom tailored outfit and lighted perfectly after much testing, so I could feel good and do my job.”

“I do not want to feed the illusion that you’re meant to feel and look ‘great’ immediately postpartum,” they continued. “That is not my narrative currently…I will never have my ‘pre baby body back,’ no matter how it changes physically because I have now had a baby! And that has altered me forever; emotionally, spiritually, and physically. That change is permanent. And I don’t want to go back!”

They ended on this note: “But in the spirit of honesty, I’m really tired and not a superhuman and this is really hard. Doing my best to serve my art and my family whilst keeping it all so very real. Love.”

Halsey shared cover art for their latest album, If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power, in July, which featured them sitting on a gold throne wearing a crown, half nude, with a baby sitting on their lap.

“This cover image celebrates pregnant and postpartum bodies as something beautiful, to be admired,” Halsey wrote on Instagram at the time. “We have a long way to go with eradicating the social stigma around bodies & breastfeeding. I hope this can be a step in the right direction!
