Halsey Got a New Hand Tattoo as a Tribute to Juice WRLD

The pandemic hasn't stopped some of your favorite celebrities from getting tattooed, especially now that some studios are opening up again. Case in point: Cardi B showed off two new tattoos (one of which was a touch-up to her iconic phoenix) in late May and early June. Now, singer Halsey is the latest to get new ink, and this one is a tribute to her late friend and musician Jarad Anthony Higgins, more commonly known as Juice WRLD.

Halsey debuted her new tattoo with fans just a few hours after Higgins's family shared that his posthumous album would be released July 10. On Monday, July 6, she posted the photo with a simple caption — just a few hearts and tagged both the tattoo artist and Higgins. It simply states "life's a mess 999" in a cursive black font right below the knuckles on what appears to be her left hand.

The phrase "life's a mess" is a reference to the new single the two artists collaborated on, and 999 is something that Higgins had tattooed on his own body and referenced multiple times throughout his career. In a previous interview with Tidal from December 2019, he shared that the "999" was "666" inverted, and no, he wasn't referencing Satan. The three numbers had a deeper message for Higgins — specifically, "taking whatever ill, whatever bad situation, whatever struggle you're going through and turning it into something positive to push yourself forward."

The minimalist tattoo was completed by Los Angeles-based tattoo artist Noah Lee, who has worked with Halsey before on the Q and diamond tattoos that sit right in front of her ear. The new heartfelt symbol may not replace her friend, but we hope that Halsey and Higgins's family find the healing and peace they need.
