This Halloween Jennifer Lopez Is Asking You to Trick-or-Treat for Hurricane Relief

Jennifer Lopez has a story to tell and it'll likely inspire you to make a difference this Halloween.

In a new video for UNICEF, the United Nations Children's Fund, Lopez makes a plea to all the ghouls and goblins who are planning to set out into the night for All Hallows' Eve.

"I want to tell you a story. It's a story about one kid who saw a bunch of other kids in trouble and saved the day," she starts off her video message (above). "These other kids—they had lost pretty much everything they had because of earthquakes and floods and hurricanes. They were scared and hungry. And the one kid said, 'I'm going to help them.' And this kid went door to door, trick-or-treating for UNICEF, collecting donations for other kids' food and water, got them shelter, and support so they weren't scared anymore."

What this means: If you or the children in your life are going trick-or-treating this year, the superstar multi-hyphenate is asking you to collect donations for children affected by natural disasters as you gather candy. You can do so through the program Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF, which runs through Oct. 31 (the deadline to turn in donations for the 2017 campaign is June 30, 2018). Head to unicefusa.org to get your own orange UNICEF collection box.

"When you trick-or-treat for UNICEF, you get to be a hero, no matter what your costume is. You get to help save other kids around the world. All it takes is this little orange box and one kid who believes they can make a difference," Lopez continues in her message.

"This year's proceeds will go to help children affected by emergencies in Puerto Rico, the Caribbean, and Mexico," she adds. "And if you're a grownup, please help the heroes by donating whatever you can."
