Candace Cameron Bure is still the Queen of Christmas, just not at Hallmark anymore.

On April 19, news broke that the Fuller House actress had signed a deal with Great American Country Media (GAC), effectively ending her time at Hallmark Channel. Apart from starring in TV shows and movies for the network’s various channels, including GAC Family and GAC Living, she will develop and produce while “overseeing and curating programming." What’s more, Candace will “create year-round seasonal content” and bring her holiday experience to the annual Great American Christmas franchise.

In case GAC doesn’t ring a bell, the network is run by Bill Abbott, the former CEO of Crown Media Family Networks (a.k.a. the parent company behind Hallmark Channel). Candace is among a handful of Hallmark stars who've made the transition over to GAC in the past several months. She joins Jen Lilley, Danica McKellar, Trevor Donovan and Jessica Lowndes. Though it may be a new beginning for the Queen of Christmas, it hasn’t been easy news for Hallmark fans to digest.

Shortly after, Candace confirmed that she was switching channels in an Instagram post. “Excited to join the @gactv and @gacliving 📺 family!” she captioned screenshots of Deadline's article.

Reacting to the news, Candace’s celebrity friends immediately reached out to her with celebratory messages. “Yayayay!!!! Welcome to the family, my friend!! 🤗🤗🤗,” Danica wrote. “Woooooo 🙌🔥❤️,” Candace’s daughter Natasha added. “Congratulations!!!! ❤️,” Lacey Chabert commented. “Congrats! That’s amazing!! ❤️❤️,” fellow Fuller House star Jodie Sweetin said.

While there were many fans excited about her career news, lots of them were also upset. “Nooooo 😢😢😢 I’m broken. Her show was the best Hallmark Movies and Mysteries had… 💔 💔 💔,” one person wrote. “So you’re leaving Hallmark too? 😣,” another added. “As a Hallmark Channel follower and loyalist, I am very disappointed!” a different fan said. “Sorry Candace but I don’t think this is good news at all!!!!!” a follower commented.

Some couldn’t help but feel mixed emotions about Candace’s announcement. According to Deadline, the actress will no longer appear in future Hallmark projects and there are no plans to add more movies to Aurora Teagarden Mysteries. “I’m happy for you but also sad to see the Aurora franchise come to an end! It’s one of my favorite,” someone else said.

While fans asked Candace to address her departure from Hallmark on Instagram, she opened up about her decision in a statement. “I’m very excited to develop heartwarming family and faith-filled programming and make the kind of stories my family and I love to watch,” she said.

Candace continued: “I am constantly looking for ways that I can inspire people to live life with purpose. GAC fits my brand perfectly; we share a vision of creating compelling wholesome content for an audience who wants to watch programming for and with the whole family. Great, quality entertainment with a positive message is what my partnership with GAC is all about!”

If the network’s name sounds familiar, it’s probably because GAC Family brought Lori Loughlin back into the When Calls the Heart universe. In September 2021, Deadline reported that the actress would reprise her role as Abigail Stanton about two years after Hallmark ended their relationship with her following her involvement in the college admissions scandal. But Hallmark clarified that Lori wouldn't be returning to When Calls the Heart but instead When Hope Calls on its new TV home, GAC Family.

“Hallmark Channel has not cast Lori Loughlin in any current projects, including When Calls the Heart, nor do we have any plans to cast her in the future,” the network said in a statement. “She was cast by GAC Family, a wholly separate cable network not affiliated with Hallmark Channel or Crown Media Family Networks."
