Hallmark Fans Have Strong Reactions to the New 'Aurora Teagarden Mysteries' Movie’s Cast

Aurora Teagarden Mysteries is officially coming back ... but it's going to look a little different this time around.

When Candace Cameron Bure left the Hallmark Channel in April 2022, fans of the popular TV movie franchise voiced concerns about whether it would continue. Nearly a year later, on March 9, the network has announced that a prequel is in the works, titled Aurora Teagarden: Something New. What's more, a report from Deadline revealed that Skyler Samuels will step into a younger version of the titular role, with Evan Roderick portraying Arthur and Marilu Henner returning as Aida Teagarden.

“Our viewers have been waiting for more adventures with Aurora and her friends — what better way to do that than to take them back to when the young, amateur sleuth was just coming into her own?" said Emily Merlin, the Development Manager, Programming, at Hallmark Media. "The Aurora Teagarden franchise is a fan favorite and we’re excited to share this new chapter with viewers."

The folks at Hallmark aren't the only ones excited about the news. Skyler made her own announcement on Instagram, sharing her excitement about taking over the role beloved by fans. Her post inspired viewers to leave their own congratulatory messages about Aurora Teagarden Mysteries returning.

"Oh I loved these films and I love you so much as an actress this is so exciting!!!! Congratulations ❤️❤️," one person wrote in the comments section. "Right on! I'll officially be crashing my mom’s Hallmark marathons now," another follower exclaimed. "Yes! I love this series and can’t wait to see you in it!" a different user added.

So, is there a release date for when fans can get re-acquainted with the Aurora Teagarden Mysteries? While there's no official timeframe, Variety did mention that the new TV movie will premiere sometime later this year. The outlet also shared Hallmark's official premise for what to expect from the upcoming film, which takes place after Aurora's college graduation and comes back to Lawrenceton.

In a summary of the official press release, Aurora returns home from school to help her mother as she tries to keep her new real estate business afloat. Between working at a local diner and as a teacher's assistant for a crime fiction class, she's the maid of honor in her friend Sally's wedding. But when Sally's fiancé suddenly goes missing, Aurora launches an investigation and ends up discovering a body. After assuming it was him, she learns it's not only someone else, but Sally's fiancé might be the culprit.
