Hallmark Channel Cancels New Series After 1 Season

Hallmark Channel's Ride

Fans of Yellowstone looking for a similar Western family series without the TV-MA rating, found it in Hallmark Channel's Ride. The series, which premiered earlier this year on March 26, followed the lives of the McMurrays, a Colorado rodeo dynasty. According to Vulture, the show was quietly canceled at Hallmark Channel after just one season.

The series starred Nancy Travis as Isabel McMurray, the matriarch of the clan, who has survived not only the death of her husband, but also the death of her eldest son, Austin (Marcus Rosner) to rodeo accidents. Tiera Skovbye was Missy McMurray, Austin's widow and a champion trick rider who gave up competing to manage her husband's rising career. Beau Mirchoff starred as Cash McMurray, the middle brother who has always trying to come out from under Austin's shadow, even in death and who also loved Missy and probably knew her better than his brother ever did. The cast was rounded out by Sara Garcia, Tyler Jacob Moore and Jake Foy.

The season one finale found Cash (Mirchoff) riding the same bull that killed Austin. This time, no McMurray life would be taken as Cash won. After his prize ride, Missy confronted him about his feelings, having discovered clues throughout the season that he might be in love with her. The confrontation culminated in the pair's first kiss. To complicate things, Gus (Moore), who had already told Missy he was falling for her, shows up at Missy's door at the same time as Cash only to find she had opted to return to trick riding instead of facing her feelings.

Ride was not the only new series to premiere on Hallmark this year. The Way Home, starring Andie MacDowell and Chyler Leigh, is a family drama with a time-travel twist that is set to return in 2024. MacDowell previously lead the ensemble drama, Cedar Cove, Hallmark Channel's first foray into series television. Cedar Cove premiered in 2013 and ran for three seasons.
