Halle Berry had us fawning over her beauty look before she even stepped onto the red carpet at the 2021 Academy Awards. Via her Instagram Stories, the actor shared a rather intriguing image just moments before her appearance: a single shot of snipped-off hair splayed all over the floor. That alone convinced us that Berry would be bringing a drastic new hair look to the Oscars. Turns out we had no idea just how drastic that new cut would be.

As her trip down the carpet revealed, Berry is now the proud owner of a very trendy, very edgy, and very chic micro-bob haircut. The front sits just above her chin, with the back a little bit shorter. And, seeing as Berry is never afraid to experiment with new looks, she topped the whole thing off with itty-bitty baby bangs that she swept slightly to one side for the red carpet. The look was created by hairstylist Sara Seward. Here's a closer look at the new bob:

To balance the haircut's major statement, Berry kept her makeup minimal and neutral (makeup artist Jorge Monroy pulled the look off with Clinique products). Prior to the Oscars, Berry's hair had been much longer (just past her shoulders). We all know that the actor is no stranger to short hair. In fact, this new style feels right at home, just as her iconic early-2000s pixie did.

Welcome back to the short hair club, Halle! We're really happy to see you here.
