Since their love story began in early 2022, Halle Bailey and DDG have hit some major relationship milestones together.
The star of 2023’s live-action The Little Mermaid and the rapper and YouTuber (birth name Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr.) went public with their relationship in January 2022. Two years later, the duo welcomed the arrival of their first child, a baby boy named Halo.
Ahead, we track their entire relationship—from their first sighting in public together to their rationale for keeping Bailey’s pregnancy a secret.
January 6, 2024: Halle announces the birth of their first child.
The singer shares a photo of her hand wrapped around her baby son’s. The infant wears a gold nameplate bracelet inscribed Halo.
“Even though we’re a few days into the new year, the greatest thing that 2023 could have done for me, was bring me my son,” Bailey writes in the caption. “Welcome to the world my halo 🥰👼🏽 ✨the world is desperate to know you 😉🤣♥️.”
In a Snapchat video, Bailey explains she kept the pregnancy a secret because she “just wanted to make sure [she] had a beautiful, private healthy time.”
“Honestly I stayed off of all social media,” she says. “I really tried to just keep myself sane, and I know that there was a lot of people who would always comment and be like, ‘We know girl, we know.’”
Fall 2023: Halle skirts around pregnancy rumors.
After a streak of major red-carpet events where Bailey dresses in uncharacteristically baggy clothing, fans begin to speculate that Bailey is pregnant with her and DDG's first child.
In November, Bailey hits back at claims that she has “pregnancy nose” in a video shared to her Snapchat. “Listen, if I see one more person say something about my nose one more time, it’s gonna be hell to pay,” she says. “And you know why? ’Cause I am Black. I love my nose.”
July 14, 2023: DDG releases a song that hints at his insecurities in his relationship.
In a new track titled “Famous,” the rapper appears to call out Bailey for engaging with her costar, Jonah Hauer-King, during the press tour and filming for Disney's live adaptation of The Little Mermaid.
The lyrics state: “Filmin' a movie now you kissing dudes / You know I love you a lot / I don't give a fuck if that shit for promo / I don't wanna see this shit no more / Why is y'all holdin' hands in the photo? / You know I'm insecure, that's a no-no.”
The lyrics seem to reference The Little Mermaid's U.K. premiere, in which Bailey and Hauer-King briefly held hands on the red carpet.
In the chorus, DDG continues to express his displeasure at feeling vulnerable in their relationship: “Fall in love, I hate that shit / Knockin' me off my grind, I can't fuck with relationships / I ain't even got enough time in a day for me to chase a bitch / I don't even ask for much, I ask you to do the basic shit / Hardest things I did was fall in love with a famous bitch.”
April 2023: Halle calls DDG the “center of [her] world.”
In an interview with British Vogue, Bailey talks about falling hard for the rapper.
“Experiencing deep love for the first time in my life is something I feel has opened a whole new world for me creatively,” she tells the magazine. “What it feels like to love someone other than your family, like somebody you may not have known two years ago but now they’re the center of your world.”
She adds, “I like all of the scary feelings that come with that. I like the suspense, the not knowing what’s going to happen, and I feel like that’s what I’m supposed to be going through in womanhood.”
March 12, 2023: They go to the Oscars after-party.
The two look stronger than ever by the time the two head to Vanity Fair's annual Oscars party together, where Bailey looks stunning in a molten gold gown.
February 2023: Cheating rumors emerge.
DDG's ex-girlfriend, Rubi Rose, tweets, “Having ur bitch [wear] my clothes is crazy lol,” immediately prompting fans to speculate that she is referring to Bailey. Fans noted that Bailey had worn a T-shirt in a recent Instagram post that was previously worn by Rose in 2020.
Rose later shares alleged screenshots of DDG messaging Rose to ask if she's still in Los Angeles. In the screenshot, Rose responds, “U hitting me the day y'all argue is so u lol.” DDG allegedly responds, “Lol u right, lemme go heal first.”
The rapper later sparks breakup rumors by unfollowing Bailey and tweeting, “All these girls the same, ain’t no way.” He also denies the cheating allegations in another tweet where he adds, “Nobody cheated on nobody btw. don’t take my tweets too serious.”
Bailey also addresses the rumors with her own since-deleted tweet. “The devil is working lol Please don’t feel into the lies, especially from a third party. Stay blessed everyone,” she says.
January 21, 2023: They travel to Dubai.
For the grand opening of Dubia's newest luxury hotel, Atlantis the Royal, the two made a stylish joint appearance on the blue carpet.
December 12, 2022: They attend a movie premiere together.
DDG joins Bailey for the red-carpet U.S. premiere of Avatar 2: The Way of Water.
October 22, 2022: They have a date night at an art gala.
DDG and Bailey hit the red carpet again for the 5th Annual WACO Wearable Art Gala.
October 7, 2022: DDG says he's “very proud” of Halle.
In an interview with People, the rapper discusses Bailey role in the forthcoming live adaptation of Disney's The Little Mermaid.
“I'm very proud of her. And I'm just happy to see it,” he says. “I feel like sometimes I'm even more excited than anybody else. Just seeing it and seeing everything that she dreamed of coming to life, it's really dope.”
September 29, 2022: They go to Fashion Week.
The two are spotted amongst the star-studded crowd at the Roger Vivier press day during Paris Fashion Week.
August 26, 2022: Halle makes a cameo in DDG's music video.
Bailey stars in the music video for “If I Want You,” where she and the rapper can be seen embracing and holding each other closely.
August 22, 2022: Halle opens up about their relationship.
Speaking with Essence, Bailey reveals that she knew about DDG long before they became official. “I’ve been a fan of his for years,” she tells the outlet. “I grew up being on YouTube and would always see the young Black creators and was constantly inspired by them. He was one of them.”
When asked if she's in love with him, she confirms, “Yes. For sure I am.”
August 11, 2022: DDG supports Halle after she lands a Variety cover.
Following Bailey's cover for Variety's 2022 Power of Young Hollywood issue, the rapper joins The Little Mermaid star at a party thrown by the publication. At the event, the two are photographed dancing and embracing each other.
June 26, 2022: They make their red-carpet debut.
The two become red-carpet official by attending the 2022 BET Awards together.
March 2022: They go Instagram official.
DDG confirms their relationship by sharing his first-ever post of Bailey. In the post, which has since been deleted, the rapper wishes the singer a happy birthday, writing, “Happy Birthday to the beautifulest, the flyest, the sweetest. Love you forever.”
Bailey also debuts DDG on her social media by sharing a video of the two doing vocal warm-ups on TikTok.

Fans start speculating about the duo's relationship status when they're spotted attending an Usher concert in Las Vegas together.
