Scarlett Johansson graced the 2023 Cannes Film Festival red carpet last week, and we’re still thinking about her sleek, summery and shoulder-length haircut! The Asteroid City star wore her blonde tresses down in a slicked-back, one-length lob that fans can’t get enough of.

As the weather gets warmer, many of us are noticing the impulse to chop off a few inches. We checked in with professional hair stylists and experts to learn more about blunt lobs like Johansson’s, and tips for rocking the look yourself this summer for a healthier, voluminous and timelessly chic look.

The Appeal of Johansson's Blunt, Chopped and Sleek Lob

A lob is a classic summer haircut, celebrity hair stylist Gina Rivera tells us, because it allows a shorter length than one might be used to, without going too short.

"The lob, also recognized as a longer version of the classic bob, is such a popular look right now," she says. Rivera continues, "One of the main reasons for that is the fact that you don’t have to commit to shorter hair and it’s versatile. The lob is also terrific for creating a youthful look."

A long, sleek and one-length lob like Johansson's is a "great option" for beating the heat, Rivera notes, "especially for those that don’t want to cut all of their hair off."

In addition, this 'do allows for the "removal of damaged ends" and its one-length "creates a lot of opportunities for styling."

In addition, Rivera explains that this look also helps to "soften the features," making it a great choice for anti-aging goals as well.

"This style is darling tucked behind an ear or just worn down," Rivera adds, and Johansson did this on the red carpet, proving her point!

Tips For Getting a Lob at the Salon

If you've decided that you want to replicate the Oscar nominee's new 'do, Rivera has some helpful tips to share.

"It's best to always consult with your stylist on a maintenance schedule but for those trying to regain hair health, make sure to trim every 4-6 weeks," she advises.

It's also super important in-between visits, she notes, to use a "great hair supplement packed with biotin, collagen and B vitamins." Good to know!
