If anyone knows what makes a trending manicure, it's Hailey Bieber. The Rhode founder practically changed the nail landscape as we know it when she debuted the glazed donut manicure—the classic, chrome, universally flattering nail look. Now, after a few months of trying out everything from "Fruity Pebble" blue to everyone's new favorite mismatched mani trend, the model has settled into her new favorite nail look—the naked French manicure.

Over the past couple of months, Bieber has been silently hinting that the glazed donut has been replaced by its naked counterpart. The manicure has been making an appearance all over her Instagram—while posing in a photoshoot for Rhode's new Pineapple Refresh Cleanser, while taking mirror selfies around the house, and while teasing her genius Rhode phone case.

At first, Bieber's new favorite manicure looks almost like there's nothing on her nails—even more so than the glazed craze did. A subtle French manicure, the look is like if the "your nails but better" trend put in a little more effort. Like all of the aforementioned simple manis, this new trending look still gives us a peek at the natural nails, as both the base and white tips are made with sheer polish. The base often flows seamlessly into the white or light beige tips with little to no definition of where the tips start and end, and while it works with any nail shape, it pairs particularly well with a soft almond.

"The Naked French is a more subtle interpretation of the classic French. It still gives that natural look, but it blurs any discoloration for a more refined appearance," Georgia Rae, the London-based nail artist responsible for Sofia Richie Grainge's wedding manicure, previously told us. She went on to describe the new trending look as similar to "your nails but better," yet, at the same time, "natural but still 'done.'"

The appeal is simple, as "it stands the test of time," said Rae. Bieber doesn't shy away from playful fashion moments and even more playful makeup, like her Sugar Plum Fairy glam. However, trying out all these fun looks can be hard when you have an over-the-top manicure drawing attention away from them.

"I know women and have clients that embrace every trend with regards to clothing, hair, and makeup but consistently have a barely-there manicure! It's all about enhancing the natural beauty of your nails, hands, and skin tone," Rae told Byrdie—which is exactly what Bieber's nails do.
